Ainge likes what he sees from Pressey.  It appears the Crawford and Brooks trade was at least in part to give Pressey more playing time to develop his game.

“In the deal that we did with Jordan (Crawford) and MarShon (Brooks), as an example, we like those guys, but we really want to see Phil (Pressey) play. And it was tough for him to get minutes and opportunities. With Rondo coming back, Phil wasn’t going to (get) a chance to play much.

This is such spin.  Its trying to sell youth to the fans, as the team is falling apart.

Think about what he said.  He said that Pressey was not good enough to play over Crawford and Brooks...so they traded the two players that are better than him, so he can play.

If he actually meant that, its complete insanity.

Well...no, he probably did mean it.  But what he meant is, we really wanted to see Pressey play...us into the lottery.

Yeah he's just spinning the trade. The team was pretty upfront about moving Crawford to get some value out of him before he'd be moved to a backup role which worried them.

I fully believe they like Pressley and think he could be a Norris Cole or Joel Anthony type for the team. (Journeyman who plays himself into a solid backup in time) But they didn't trade Crawford to give him a shot.

That's not what he said.  I believe Pressey wasn't getting minutes because the players ahead of him are NOT rookies and have NBA experience.  Coaches sit rookies all the time in favor of experienced players.  That is exactly what Doc would have done as well, no matter how good Pressey is.  If Doc was coach, we might not even see how good Pressey is because he'd never get off the bench.

Look, I believe that some of this is probably spin, but how can you say that everything that comes out of Danny's mouth is a lie, because that's essentially what you're saying.

That's not exactly how I see it. I think it's more of an acknowledgement that Brooks and Crawford weren't going to be longterm Celtics, while the verdict is still out on Pressey.

There's also the fact that Pressey is basically on the team as a bro-deal between Ainge and Paul Pressey--kind of a more-useful Chris Smith situation--so they're especially interested to see if Phil will pan out.
