Nioe complimentary player.  Good 7th or 8th man on a good team.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!  Matt Barnes is a good 7th or 8th man on a good team.  Jeff Green is clearly a starting caliber player in this league, even on a contender.

Mike
I really don't think you can make that claim since Jeff Green has never been a starter on a team that even hit .500 nonetheless was a contender.  If you call a contender a team with a .700 win percentage, Jeff Green isn't starting for Indiana or Miami.  He isn't starting for San Antonio, Portland, or Oklahoma City either.  Those are the .700% teams this year.  For the teams above .600, he probably starts for the Clippers (but would be at best the third best player).  I don't think he starts for Houston (Parsons is a much better SF fit and Jones has been a beast at PF of late).  He doesn't start ahead of AI in Golden State.

So of the 8 teams with a .600 win percentage thus far this year, Jeff Green starts for 1 of them and is at best the 3rd best player and more likely the 4th or 5th best player on every single one of those teams.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Uh, Jeff Green played the 2nd most minutes on an OKC team that went 50-32.

This "all or nothing", "championship or tank", "superstar or scrub" thinking is frustratingly dumb.

Jeff Green is an underrated defensive player; but he is not a go to offensive player. He just disappears too often on offense. That said he could be a starter on a good team because of his defense and his ability to fit in.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I'm not sure we'll get adequate value for Green. I say we ride it out and see if he can be a 3rd or 4th option on our banner 18 team  ;)

He might start for the Clippers at SF but he wouldn't be their third best player.  DeAndre Jordan, while maybe not quite as good as his numbers, is still averaging 9.7/13.7 a game.  He's not as good and pivotal an offensive player asRedick or Jordan Crawford nor does he contribute in multiple ways like Barnes.  Basically, if Green is the third best player on a team, that team is nowhere near a contender.

Green mainly contributes points when he's on the court but unfortunately, he only contributes an average amount at below-average efficiency.  Basically he's a minus player.  I don't see why teams would trade anyone of value or draft picks for him because he's not an upgrade.

What the Celtics need is for an opposing GM to have the Ainge mindset whereby he loves Green's physical tools and thinks he's acquiring an undervalued player.  This was repeated years earlier with Ricky Davis.  Basically, we need an opposing GM who is a dupe when it comes to trades.

missed that one season you are correct.

Green probably also starts in Miami ahead of Battier who has been starting, but Green is at best their 4th best player.

That is the thing with Green.  He can't be a top 3 player on a title team.  He just doesn't have the necessary skill sets.  Good defender, ok scorer & shooter, but below average at everything else.

Green could definitely be the 3rd best player on a championship team.

You put green on OKC again , with a healthy Westbrook, and start him at the two they definitely go to the finals.

You put green on the heat , he would fit at that 3/4 position beautifully.

You put green on Indiana he would clearly start at the 3 and George would play the two and they would possibly break the record for the most wins in a season

You put green on golden state that would make them more of a contender

You put green on any of the contending teams he would be a great 3rd option.

I really don't get the hate for green, it's only because he Is not a bonfired superstar.  If you really think about it though he is not getting paid that much, he's getting paid to be a 3rd option on a good team. Our team doesn't have a 2nd option or even a 1st option. Rondo is a passing point gaurd he's not a scoring option.

Now does this mean i wouldn't trade green? No way, for the right offer I'm down to trade him. But these proprioustrious statements that green is a 7th option or is not a starting player in the nba is a joke. If you watch green when he plays lebron, he gets by lebron, he plays good defense on him, he can score on lebron James. Last time I checked lebron is the best player in the nba in basically every aspect of the game. If you think a player that at times outplays lebron or has the potential to outplay lebron is not a starter then your high.

He's just not a SuperStar
