If only it wasn't Sam Smith "reporting" on this rumor.  Sigh.

Anyway, I don't know why Houston would be interested in Green with the development of Terence Jones.  Getting a stretch 4 is not critical for them anymore.  Houston has most, if not all the pieces, of a championship team in place.  I think they'd be better off trying to patch things up with Asik (if that's possible) because the only piece they might lack is another good defensive big when Howard is off the floor.

Even though this is Sam Smith, I bet Ainge is trying hard to get something for Green.

Beat me to it. Terrence Jones has really along this season, I don't think Jeff is a big enough upgrade for them to trade for.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
This is Sam Smith talking here. Basically the Midwestern version of Peter Vescey.

"One trade possibility" means Sam Smith tried it in the Trade Machine, and it worked. It's doubtlessly not based on any kernel of verifiable factual information.

Actually Peter Vescey broke the Jordan Crawford trade the day before it happened.
Smith has gotten this info from the same source that is claiming Jabari Parker may stay in school and he was the espn guy for the chicago bulls.
Anyway, sounds like he's been talking to someone  (most likely in Chicago? ) and they've mentioned Green. Wouldn't be surprised if Danny has offered them Green now they've traded Deng away.
He didn't break the trade at all, he said he was being shopped heavily and could move soon.

He also got the team wrong in his guess (LAC I belive)

He broke the news that he was being heavily shopped and that a trade was near completion. He listed possible teams and GSW was one of them, the Clippers were too.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

This is what I tend to believe, as well as Asik not being what they get in return. Put it down to confirmation bias, but there are lots of scenarios going forward for a rebuild where Green and his contract being out of the picture would be to our benefit. I keep coming back to Charlotte or Phoenix, and am not crazy about the Asik proposal for either side.

But it's common knowledge that we can't trade with LAC for a year. Clearly, he wasn't working from reliable sources.

I wouldn't be shocked if this rumor has its roots in some GMs asking Ainge about Rondo and Ainge giving a counter-offer involving Green instead of Rondo.

So has Parsons officially became "overrated for being underrated" yet?

Yes, he's the best value in the league. That doesn't mean he's a great player, really, it just means he's on an incredibly team-friendly contract.

Why would the keep Parsons if they have Jeff Green?

They play the same position, and I don't think Jeff or Chandler would come off the bench.

OKC liked Harden, but they still traded him.

So it's not a 100% no.

Why would Houston trade Parsons to get Green, who's making almost 10 times as much?

Parsons is going to get paid as a RFA this year from the sounds of it. Still I don't see why they'd trade him for Green.

I dont think the Rockets trade for Green happens either. More likely Ainge is making calls asking for the moon and taking his time.
Would Chicago give us their Charlotte pick + Boozer for Green+ Bogans?

Glad this is out tho. Someone will bite on green as ainge did also. As a sf coming off the bench, green would be top 3

Teams could use him for the playoffs

Because Parsons is a lot better.  Unlike Green who is called a Jack of all trades, master of none while actually being a jack of only average scoring, master of none, Parsons is actually multi-dimensional.

BOS Green(SF/PF) and Faverani(C) for
HOU Asik (C) and Casspi (SF)

Green plays the 3 and 4 off the bench and ends the game at the 4 position. Green's an upgrade at the 4 as a backup, he gets 30 mpg, and he ends games with Jones being a 61% FT shooter. We get the Center we need, they get improved bench and another 3PFG shooter. Equal number of players coming in and going out playing the same positions. Works in the machine.

From reading the Rockets boards earlier, the 4 position and 3FG shooting was a concern as was  Jones as another target for hacking at game end. This trade hurts us in the short run, but so what?
