The narrative on the most recent trade has focused on the Celtics taking on salary to acuire draft picks. Joel Anthony has fallen out of favor in Miami in favor of smaller faster lineups and now he'll ride out the final years of his deal and fade into obscurity. But are we missing something? Can Joel Anthony play?
Joel Anthony will walk onto this team as its best rim protecter. He has been a part of a winning culture for 3 years now and will not stunt the growth of our young players by requiring plays to be run for him and hoisting up shot attempts. He just fits.
Finally I kind of dig the idea of the Canadian front court. Joel Anthony would fit well next to Kelly by letting him focus on putting the ball in the basket. Imo he's on a fair deal, one where he could have received more on the open market and we may have snuck a real player who may have just needed a change scenery.
I agree and hope he could add something to the team. If we forget for a second that he was in Miami, he is the proverbial worker and does stuff that is not on the score sheet. Take a look at that article, Jeff brought up:
http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/miamiheat/post/_/id/6021/joel-anthony-the-spectacle-who-worksFor example, he would probably be our best screener and ,as Soul Jax pointed, rim protector.
He is overpaid, stone hands, etc... But still Joel Anthony is one of those players I don't mind seeing in green.
