Fans, particularly fans of franchises like the Celtics, are always crying for players to see sports as more than a cash cow. Yet, when Keith Bogans appears to be passionate about his playing time and helping the team win, we tell him to shut up and enjoy his $5 mil. What do fans truly want out of players, if not what Bogans is displaying right now?

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

Bogans is only being paid what he is getting paid to facilitate a trade, not because of his ability.  Until we traded Lee, Crawford and Brooks, he was our worst guard out of something like 7 total.  His huge salary relative to his production ($5 million) clogs up our cap room and is preventing us from signing (or resigning) a more productive player.

Therefore, while I'm glad that trade went through, he was more than willing to get a huge paycheck to ride the bench.  Now, he is hurting our team by clogging the cap AND by complaining to the media.  If we let him play, he would further hurt our team by means of lowered production compared to who would play ahead of him.  It also wouldn't be fair to the more productive players we also have on our roster.  He's trying to have his cake and eat it too.

If complaining to the media hurts then team, then pro-tankers should be begging for Wallace and Bogans to be interviewed after every loss.

He was an after thought in this trade.  It didn't matter to me if he played or not.   All these guys talking to the media does not sit well with me though.   Is Stevens this weak or not respected that his players do this all the time?

I like the hire of Stevens.

Every player wants playing time.  Most don't cry to the media about it.

There are some players who don't automatically respect coaches who didn't play the game, but need to be won over.  It's going to take some time for Stevens to build his reputation.  To do that, the Celtics need to win.

i'm critical of bogans for not knowing his role.

he's an end of the bench player that has amounted to nothing and he's crying about playing time(to the media) on a team in transition.

does he seriously think if he wasn't good enough to play he wouldn't be playing?

even if we played brooks over him just for the hell of it, regardless of the reason bogans should have looked at hump to learn how to be a professional.

Meh, Bogans shouldn't be given too much thought over either positively or negatively. I'm big in the "who cares?" camp, and I don't think there's much worth discussing over him one way or another... I say let's move on.

He is an unfortunate victim of the business side of  pro sports.....and he may happen to care ......which is nice .......but he was just a small bit piece in a monster trade .

He landed in place he has little use .

GMs are way over paying a large percentage of players today .

Hie is a highly paid afterthought.......at this point in his career

No. He knew what agreeing to take the 5 million in the sign and trade meant. The fact that he can't handle not being in the rotation after getting his big payday doesn't concern me at all.

All in all it must be better for the team to have him stay away.

So is the consensus that DA will try to use Bogans in a trade as an expiring contract before the deadline?

Or would it be better just to let his non-guaranteed expire to have a big more cap space / flexibility for draft day trades?

An unguaranteed contract doesn't expire.  It's just...not guaranteed.

Ainge doesn't have any financial pressure to move Bogans until the point where the second year of his contract starts paying out.  Even then, he could pay Bogans and hope to flip him to a team for salary relief the way Andrew Bynum was traded for a fully guaranteed contract, taking back a fully-guaranteed deal.

Depends on the opportunity that presents itself... so not worth arguing about it. That said, Bogans can still be traded during the Summer, which is highly valuable since it's a non-guaranteed contract.

guy is a VET who gets paid 5million to sit on his behind. most of us have to work 40hours a week or more for a mere fraction of that.

Bogans should act like a VET and be a good influence on this young team rather than a cancer
