Essentially we just got the following from Miami for taking on Joel Anthony:

A protected first rounder that otherwise becomes two second-rounders, and an additional second-rounder.

Joel Anthony has one year left on his contract after this year, at $3.8 million.  Miami was so desperate to get rid of that, they gave us 2-3 draft picks, one of which could be a mid-first rounder.

Gerald Wallace has two years left on his contract after this year, at $10.1 million each year.  How many draft picks do you think it will take to make that contract go away?  Clearly more than we just got from Miami.  Sure, Crash might be slightly more productive than Anthony, but not enough to matter much.  It would probably cost us at least two first rounders to move him this spring or summer.  There's no way the Celtics should pay that price, so get used to him, C's fans!

The good news is the C's have about 20 picks in the next 5 years. That being said, I would just hate to use a good chunk of that capital to just get rid of this useless waste of space. BRK gave the C's a bunch of unprotected 1sts in the future (when they knew there is a chance of them being a lottery team by then) to take him off their hands. That says a lot. I think he's stuck with us and us with him for at least another season until his deal seems somewhat more tolerable. Maybe Ainge could pull another rabbit out of his you-know-what again.

There's only two ways to trade Wallace. With a top 10 pick, or with Rondo.

The Cs aren't doing the former. If they do decide to trade Rondo, you can bet they'll try to push Wallace on the buyer.

This honestly should've been obvious.  Golden State had to hand over their 2014 and 2017 first-rounders to Utah in exchange for dumping $24+ million in dead salary on the Jazz.  At least one of the first-rounders the Celtics received from the Nets was compensation for Wallace's salary.  The Celtics themselves had to include a second-round pick with Courtney Lee because of his contract, despite the fact that he's had a much better season and has historically been a better player than Jerryd Bayless.  You don't get to just dump contracts without including a sweetener.  Unless, of course, you're Masai Ujiri trading Andrea Bargnani to the Knicks.

I would love to see the emotional mess CB and the greater Boston fandom devolves into if Ainge traded Rondo and Wallace for, a first rounder and an expiring.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Earlier this season, an unnamed GM said it would take a 1st rd pick to have the C's dump Wallace's contract.

The Heat were desperate to move Anthony because they will be dealing with repeater tax penalties and have to re-sign a bunch of players. We are not in the same dire position.

Right. But Wallace also makes 2.5x more than Anthony and is signed for 2 more years after this season. It's gonna take way more for someone to take that on that type of commitment this season.

no rush to move Wallace.  contract isn't killing the C's for the next 2 years based on the $ amount.  C's won't be players in free agency this coming offseason or the next so his contract will just come off the books the year they figure to be looking to sign a top FA

It's been obvious to me since the Golden State-Utah trade.  I was just pointing it out for other CBers who don't pay attention to what other teams are doing, and yet want Gerald Wallace gone at the trade deadline.  It's not happening.

But what's the rush, really? Are we avoiding the luxury tax? Are we going to make a splash during free agency?

Don't expect any trade involving Gerald Wallace. To dump that contract, multiple rival execs say, will require at least one of Nets picks

Why is Wallace an issue? This team is rebuilding so cap space isn't a big deal right now. Wallace's contract actually helps you as it allows you to reach the cap floor the next couple seasons. If anything you should go the other way and add more picks to take on bad contracts from other teams.

I agree with this too.  I'd love to trade Hump and Bogans to get Boozer from CHI, for example (although they have the amnesty clause, so get less value from dumping him other than Reinsdorf's pocket) and get a few more assets for the trouble.  Or Amar'e from the Knicks, but they're running low on fun things to get back in trades.

It's Miami's 2016 2nd rounder, and Philadelphia's 2014 1st rounder, which is lottery protected for 2014 and 2015. It becomes Philly's 2015 AND 2016 2nd rounders if protection triggers both times.

So, it's 2 picks now, possibly a 3rd.

Question: is it at all possible that Philadelphia might want to reacquire their 1st round pick, plus at least another 1st round pick, at the cost of Wallace's contract?
