Earlier this season, an unnamed GM said it would take a 1st rd pick to have the C's dump Wallace's contract.

The Heat were desperate to move Anthony because they will be dealing with repeater tax penalties and have to re-sign a bunch of players. We are not in the same dire position.
Right. But Wallace also makes 2.5x more than Anthony and is signed for 2 more years after this season. It's gonna take way more for someone to take that on that type of commitment this season.

But what's the rush, really? Are we avoiding the luxury tax? Are we going to make a splash during free agency?

Don't expect any trade involving Gerald Wallace. To dump that contract, multiple rival execs say, will require at least one of Nets picks
I agree with you. I don't think there is a rush unless something crazy happens (doubt it). I don't think the C's are legit FA players anyways. Any stars they get will probably be through trades/draft. I think Wallace is here for the foreseeable future. I was referring what it would cost to move him now.

That's why I added Mannix's deal. The Sixers pick loses some value because of it's protection, where as the Brooklyn's pick have no protection giving those picks greater value. However, I don't think it would take multiple 1st rd picks. At most it'll be a 1st and maybe a 2nd.

With the extinction of Crawford, Gerald Wallace has the 2nd highest average assists per game on the roster. He is one the best passers on the team....this keeps him away from the foul line which is very, very good. He is also tied with Olynyk for most "open shot refusals."

Opposing coach..."Wallace won't shoot, just cover the other guys....."

or

Opposing coach..." Foul Wallace! he can't hit a barn..."

All kidding aside, Wallace has made what? Four or five highlight reel assists this year including to Green for the win against the Heat.

There's plenty of precedent for dumping washed up wings.  Usually when they have 2 years left on their deal.

Richard Jefferson, Corey Maggette, Stephen Jackson... You can get a useless expiring for them if you tack on a single first rounder.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

All of those players have at one time in their career been traded to the Milwaukee Bucks.  So has John Salmons.  So, I predict that this off-season, Gerald Wallace will be traded to the Bucks.

Question: is it at all possible that Philadelphia might want to reacquire their 1st round pick, plus at least another 1st round pick, at the cost of Wallace's contract?

LOL.  No way, nobody wants the albatross that is Gerald Wallace's contract.  Forget about trading him,  it's not going to be worth it.  Ainge needs to concentrate on acquiring capital and hopefully a top pick in the upcoming draft.

As some have commented, the Celtics don't need to get rid of him. They've already paid to get under the tax (money in the Fab Melo trade, and a 2nd rounder in the Courtney Lee trade) and to get some financial flexibility.

Gerald's contract is terrible, but if he can play like he did last night, I don't mind him on the team. He tries hard on the court, and even if he complains, he always talks about team and effort, and that's always a good thing.

Of course I'd love to see the BOS-CHI-NYK three-way trade with Boozer and Wallace going to NYK, Hump and Bogans to CHI, and Amare+Shumpert+CHA pick from CHI going to the Celtics. Maybe with Rondo back, we can showcase Crash to make NYK bite.

Yeah, this is no major surprise.  We had to give up a lottery pick to clear one year of Raef's contract (plus get the unimpressive Telfair.)  Moving Wallace's contract this year would probably require that level pick.

Initiate a rule where everybody must shave their head.

Wallace will become distraught and agree to a cheap buyout.

Kelly "Sunshine" Olynyk will lose his basketball talent, but that's the price you pay.
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

76ers are not going to make the playoffs so its a horrible deal.  You do not build your team with 2nd round picks.  If they make the 8th seed its a great deal but the likely hood of that is slim and none

So do you think Sixers won't make it in the playoffs next season with a healthy MCW, Noel and a possible star with their pick this season?

Considering there's no reason to expect the East to be as weak next season as it now (just as how, last season, there was no reason to expect the current East to be as bad as it is), I don't think so.

Regardless, getting 2 second rounders out of an expiring Jordan Crawford, clearing up the logjam is in itself a good deal.

Add to that the chance at a first.

At worst, it's 3 second rounders. People act like it's hard to make it to the playoffs in the East any season. Heck you can get in with a sub .500 record. Sixers will have 2 lottery picks this season, theirs and one they got from Pelicans. Noel probably healthy. Other guys growing up and moves the organization will surely make with all that money they will have. I think it's a high possibility that they can get the 7-8th seed. If they miss, wouldn't the two picks they give us be pretty close to the first round and of course Mia's pick will be close to last.
