Many bad calls this week like every other week.

This one with Queen James though takes the cake.

http://nba.si.com/2014/01/10/lebron-james-mirza-teletovic-flagrant-foul-heat-nets/

Flagrant foul called on Teletovic rather than an offensive foul on Queen James left forearm to the neck of Kirilenko.

They called both the offensive and flagrant fouls - it even says it in the article you posted.

It's good to be the Queen.
I'm no fan of James but don't say something that isn't true. Lebron James WAS called for a offensive foul. (and teletovic for the flagrant type 1)

The foul was his 4th and in the first OT he fouled out. Without James the Heat lost the second OT 11-2.

Ontopic:
Clearly a foul. Also note that Rivers is a terrible free throw shooter but never say never...

Except for the fact that LeBron was assessed an offensive foul after the review...

Cannot find video.  It clearly was NOT Mayo fouling Rivers.  My bad.  Not sure who it was committing the blatant uncalled foul.

Smitty77

It was Monta Ellis. Just saw the video, and it was clearly a foul. But to their defense, the refs didn't really have a good view on that play. One guy was behind Rivers so he probably didn't see the hack and the other ref was blocked by a Pelicans player so he probably didn't see it either. It was definitely a foul, though. Unfortunate that it ended up that way.

I agree he had a bad angle, but ONLY because he made absolutely NO EFFORT to move to see the play VERY SLOWLY developing.  He had plenty of time to move to his left or right to see the play more clearly.  That to me really makes this even MORE INCOMPETENT!!!!

He should be fired, along with all of them working this game, IMMEDIATELY!!  I don't give a care how long ANY of them have been working in the NBA.  I also know that this is just a regular season game, but it still does NOT make this right.  There simply HAS to be some accountability for this level of incompetence!!!

Do you think that fouls on the defender that are initiated by the offensive player are good for the game?

That was in NO way initiated by ONLY the offensive player.  Ellis CLEARLY hacked down across BOTH arms and continued his downward motion well after contact was made.

Apologies to all.

Shut off the game right after the initial call in disgust.

No worries - LeBron did get away with a huge one earlier that same game when he committed 3 separate offensive goaltending violations on the same play (slapping backboard, using backboard to keep himself in the air, and hitting ball in the cylinder) and didn't get called for any of them.

The NBA is a joke. If it wasn't for the Cs, I'd never watch any of this crap. Superstars getting preferential treatment, especially at the ends of games; overkill on "flagrant" fouls; LeBron getting away with offensive fouls all the time (though they amazingly did call the one he committed against Kirilenko; all the thug posturing by players, like James running up to Teletovic like he's going to knock his block off but then stopping a foot short and just jawing at him ... ooooo, I'm freakin' scared, LeBron.

Also, Austin Rivers didn't do a rakethrough.

Rod Thorn, NBA President, Basketball Operations, issued the following statement Sunday regarding a missed foul call late in the fourth quarter of the Dallas Mavericks' 110-107 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Jan. 11, at American Airlines Center:

"After reviewing postgame video, we have determined a foul should have been called on Dallas' Monta Ellis for illegal contact on the arms of New Orleans' Austin Rivers while Rivers was attempting a three-point field goal. Rivers should have been awarded three free throws with 0.6 left on the clock."

Too little too late. It's like rescinding technical fouls ... but not the points the other team got from those technical fouls.

Somehow I get the feeling that if you played some five on five basketball tomorrow you'd much rather play with the modern interpretation of the rules than the vintage ones you allegedly prefer.

Well, I wouldn't want to get clotheslined รก la McHale, if that's what you mean. I would, however, want fouls called the same for everyone.

Not me, Me and my friends still play ball by the 1980's rules. Now that I'm in my 40's it hurts a little more but I can walk away not feeling like a little girl at the end of a game.
