Danny Ainge re Marshon Brooks D League stint success....

“He’s played well, done a really good job,” Ainge said. “One reason we sent him down was to make sure he’s ready, in good shape and prepared for the opportunity that is coming to him.”

http://www.pressherald.com/sports/Red_Claws__Brooks_earns_NBA_promotion_.html

So...what's this 'opportunity' he speaks of?
What are the most likely scenarios...
*More of our 28 guards being traded?
*Pressey losing minutes to Bayless with Brooks replacing Lee's rotation minutes?
*Does Bogans get minutes ahead of Brooks or is Bogans potentially gone before deadline?

Schedule starts to get a little easier after the Houston game, and presumably Brooks comes back by then.( I think he's back already for Portland game?).
Would be the perfect time to trade Bogans with Bass or Green to keep the top 5 pick hopes alive- particularly with Rondo coming back slowly soon.

Am I making something out of nothing?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I think it means Crawford and/or Bradley are gone soon.

Well, the Celtics are due for a season-ending injury that might open up playing time for Brooks.

This^^ If Ainge doesnt want to resign Bradley which could very well be the case, Im sure we could get a decent return for him.

i'd add jeff green in there too. or maybe the "opportunity" is that some team has expressed interest in brooks himself. I doubt that. but who knows.

I think this is just Ainge talking up a guy.  Of course he's not gonna say "Oh yeah, MarShon is a scrub.  He has no future with this team."

Yes. It's actually Doc Rivers 101, but Doc isn't around anymore to throw out these confidence-builders, so Danny's doing it.

Earlier in the season Brooks had mentioned he was ok with the DNPs because he knew he was going to get a chance later in the season, or something to that effect.

At the time it triggered a thought, that maybe Ainge and Stevens had told Brooks they wanted to wait to play him til Rondo got back because maybe they see the two players fitting together.

I think Ainge's plan all along was to sit Brooks so Lee could flourish giving him a chance to trade his 11 million dollar contract.

Brooks shaking off the rust right before Rondo comes back adds to my suspicion that Brooks will see minutes side by side with Rondo because there is something there Ainge and Stevens thinks might click really well.

Looking to surround Rondo with guys that can finish on the break?

Pretty simple -- they're going to play him before the deadline in an effort to boast his trade value.

None of our 2's are starters on a championship team so why not look at Brooks while he's under contract?  It's not like he'd be hindering anyone's development by getting consistent minutes.

As an aside, I think people are undervaluing AB. He is 23 yrs old, and has shown great growth in his role now that he is not asked to be a pg. He is a plus defender, and is shooting 45% FGs and close to 40% from threes...I think people conflate the fact that he is a RFA at the end of the year into the idea that is somehow below-average and readily replaceable.

And while it might be true that at present he would not start on a championship team, he very well could be a first guard off the bench on one. And, BTW, the Cs as currently constituted are NOT a championship team, and at 23 yrs old, we dont know how certain skill sets might progress  for AB when they are

And for all the talk of Brooks playing next to Rondo, folks should remember what AB and Rondo looked like next to each other when both healthy (or honestly, even when AB was playing with half a shoulder...)

Agree completely.  Seems like some aren't happy with him and I'm guessing it's because they just want a bigger guard.  Avery's body will get thicker and more muscular over the next couple of years so while remaining super quick he'll be a bit better heading to the hoop and not getting bumped around so easily.  Yes he's a bit short but I think his positivies outweigh  that.  I'd love him off the bench as well as a starting.  For example, if we drafted James Young we could keep starting AB until that point when Young might pass him...then decide whether to trade AB at that point or bring him off the bench.  VERY happy with AB....keep it up!
