His moves this year as well as the current roster are eerily similar to the 07-08 season.. If you break it down I think he will continue to build around Rondo by adding 2 major pieces as he did with the big 3.. so compare assets

Al Jefferson was the biggest piece as a young 16/11 pf
compare Jared Sullinger 13/8 better defender.. overall not as great but comparable

but the rest of the talent is far more favorable for this year..
Bradley and Crawford would be S&T candidates but Olynck, Faverani are high upside, low salary big man who can shoot... they come far and few between

that trumps Green and Gomes...

Jeff Green is a scorer with a contract that is not terrible but maybe hard to move...

as well as a slew of drafft picks especially from a Brooklyn team that might just get worse

So who can he target??? hypothically I will look at players who will get big contracts in the next year and the teams who may not want to pay them..

1. Demarcus Cousins.. rookie deal is expiring and will get a max deal.. Sac is terrible and if they dont feel like his attitude is good enough to build around then he may be tradeable.. I would give him the Garnett deal..  Sully, Green, and Olynck plus 2 firsts protected..

2. Lamarcus Alridge - another player who is up for a big deal and a team that will have to stretch payroll.. I rank him slightly lower than Cousins but I would give up a big piece

3. Klay Thompson - this is more of a reach but just an idea... or even Steph Curry.. Will they be able to keep both with Lee and Iguadola as well

4. Greg Monoe - S&T.. He would be more of a 2nd piece IMO...but imagine a frontcourt of Cousins and Monroe and Rondo and Bradley in the back..

anyway my 2 cents...

I think you are on the right track but Cousins already signed a new deal in September...

Do you mean 06-07? Anyways, I don't really see that many similarities to that team, except that I think Ainge at some point will have to decide at some point whether to keep Rondo or move him similar to whether or not to build around Pierce.

Also, Pressey is this team's Allan Ray.

my point is Danny will make a move to trade young assets for bigger pieces.. Im not really comparing players more of grading assets from that offseason to this offseason..

Somehow....for better or worst .......I don't think DA is done with his interest in Asik.    .....because it fell though....he knows w need a defensive interior anchor .

I m thinking that as he shuffles the roster and assets ........he may yet come up with a deal that Houston GM bites on.

In other words ...there will always be multiple angles and or reasons for Ainges madness.,  the obvious may not be the truth

He is loading up while his rookies an d rookie coach get their on the job training season.

I doubt LaMarcus Aldridge is going anywhere.

The trick is that it takes two teams and a disgruntled star who wants to go to your team to make that happen. Right now i dont see any matches. Perhaps this will be different in a year or 2.

Sacramento is trying to acquire the highest talent possible. Cousins is considered a top 10 center.  They are committed to making things work with him.

Lamarcus Aldridge isn't going anywhere. Portland is contending for a title, and boston has nothing to offer them in exchange.

Golden state really likes Thompson, and will have restricted rights on him when the time comes, he isn't going anywhere.

Kevin love is clearly not happy in Minnesota. Boston doesnt look much better an option at this point.

Greg Monroe is a possibility, and comes down to whether Detroit or any other team thinks he is worth a max contract. If Detroit thinks he is worth it, he also isn't going anywhere.

The Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen trades were a perfect storm. Yes it can happen again. But so far no one outs there looks as attainable as those two were.

Carmelo could be an option. But i am not sure if he is really worth over 20 million per year.

well this is exactly why DA is the GM and we are merely spectators... did anyone predict his 07 overhaul?

I really don't think Ainge has a defined plan yet outside of just making whatever moves necessary to ultimately land a superstar, whether it be through the draft, trade, or FA. Obviously FA hasn't ever been an option, but Ainge has tried to trade for Chris Paul twice, tanked(or whatever word you want to use) for Oden or Durant, and successfully traded for Ray and KG.I think he's open to a team with or without Rondo still, similar to Pierce before the ping pong ball disaster in '07.

I'd be in no rush to hitch my wagon to Cousins, especially for a max contract. The odds aren't all that bad that they'll tire of him during his next contract, or that his value for his next deal will be lower.

It's a very similar pattern yet he's got way more assets and ammo to use for the future.

Things are going to get real interesting.  He's got a ton more to work with this go around.

Yeah, with those future Brooklyn picks, ainge is indeed holding a very nice hand of cards. It will be fun to see what he does with them over the next few years.

I hope we continues batting above average with his drafting. And then i have faith in Stevens being the right guy to develop the incoming talent. The future looks bright.  :)

We won in 2008 by getting ringless HOF guys past their primes. That was how we got value.
