This is just too funny to not report.  Vin Baker and Kenny Anderson have agreed to travel to North Korea to play in front of Kim Jong Un on the dictator's birthday next week.  So what has the former Celtic point guard been up to as of late? -

Kenny Anderson was recently in a play entitled, The Penis Monologues and has appeared on the reality television show, Basketball Wives

Classy  ;).  Oh, and Charles Smith of Knicks lore  ::) will also be in attendance.

Nothing funny about entertaining the head of a brutal dictatorship, IMO. Rodman was one of my very favorite NBA players, but this is just sad.

It's Rodman, what did you expect?  The guy was drunk at 7am on every episode of Celebrity Apprentice.  I believe his line was, "let's rock and roll baby, let's rock and roll."  I do agree that it's sad, but that's also why it's hilarious imho.  What do you have to be doing in your life to think that playing with a bunch of geezers in North Korea would be a good idea?  Which is more surprising - the decisions of these players, or the fact that Rodman hasn't somehow contributed to starting a war on the Korean Peninsula?

Unfortunately, isn't there precedent here, with other celebrities?  Mariah Carey and Beyonce both have performed for the Gaddafi family, J Lo sang happy birthday for the president of Turkmenistan, and Kim Kardashian got money for doing something (which pretty much sums up her life imo).  Here it is -

Has it ever been stated what they are getting paid for this?  Be interesting to know.  I'm sure Rodman is a big enough name that he has a public appearance fee, but you gotta think you'd jack up that price to go to one of the most dangerous places on earth.

I believe Mariah Carey and J Lo were paid $1 million dollars for each performance, but idk about the others.

The difference, really, is that while those pop stars and entertainers are being directed towards those gigs by managers who don't really care about human rights violations, Dennis Rodman is pretty clearly an alcoholic who got hooked into this whole North Korea thing by Vice, who've got absolutely no interest in seeing him get healthy and centered.

So the whole thing is this elaborate point-and-laugh centered around the fact that The Worm isn't doing very well in his personal life. I don't hold with that--I think it's pretty similar to laughing at mentally or physically disabled people. Or the homeless. So you're mocking the guy headed over there because he's so screwed he has to entertain a dictator who is successfully keeping his people from approaching anything like the life you're living where you can post about it on CB. You're a champ. I hope you shine your participation trophy daily.

I think I'll keep my humor targeted at the expense of the fully functioning emotional troglodytes who think this stuff is funny. They're much more hilarious.

1.  So you're saying that the stars' hands are clean and that they have no moral obligation to, at the minimum, think that what they're doing is the least bit wrong?  Interesting.  Please, tell me more.

2.  How do you know that Vice has played any hand in this endeavor?  And even if that were true, let's not make Rodman out to be some kind of hero, ok buddy?  How many times has he been cited for domestic violence?

3.  You're missing the entire point of the post.  I'm not, have never, and would never, mock someone who's mentally and/or physically disabled or is homeless.  What I am saying is that the absurdity of the entire situation (ex players playing for a dictator) is what makes it hilarious - that's all.

4.  I know all about the Great Leader, whose people are starving, who altered the diary of Anne Frank, who is responsible for the horrific number of concentration/work camps, and there was even a story last year about parents who ate their child to stay alive, so don't condescend to me.

5.  You should be very careful of the things that you say to people.  I believe that your comments are in direct violation of the forum posting rules.  Would you like to sell me some Geico insurance while you're at it?  What is your problem?

It takes one to know one.  I'll be reporting this.

I'd certainly say so.  I have no idea why such a reaction on their part took place.  I'm not trolling, I was simply pointing out a ridiculous situation that I thought was as disturbing as it was funny, this was not an attempt to mock someone's demons and struggles in their personal life, jeez!  What is D.o.s. talking about?

Imagine the North Korean headlines: "Supreme Leader takes court, breaks Wilt Chamberlain's record by scoring 130 pts., then beds 20,001 women to break Wilt's other record."

Seriously, these players don't really have any face remaining to lose. Rodman because he's always made a living being outrageous and the others because they were barely famous off the basketball court to begin with. They might as well be anonymous citizens now.

There is no reason for bickering, name-calling, or mocking of other posters in this thread.  It's a clear violation of our rules, and it needs to stop immediately.

Thank you Roy.  In hindsight, I probably shouldn't have even bothered to reply to such a post, but I won't stand for such character assassination.  Still, I would like to apologize to everyone.  This thread was just supposed to be a comical, albeit a very disturbing, one.  Sorry.

Haha.  That's what I'm looking forward to - the North Korean creation myth for basketball.  Hopefully Kim Jong Un will live up to the standard set by his father's legendary exploits on the golf course  ;)  I bet the event will be sponsored by Hennessy, which, sadly, won't be all that different from the sponsors of today's games.  I'm really getting sick and tired of seeing all of the ads for alcohol.

Not to go too far off topic, but didn't I just read something about this guy feeding his uncle to the dogs? I don't think I'd put "willingly getting within 1000 miles of the guy" very high on my to-do list.

Yeah, his uncle and his girlfriend I believe.  I think he even ordered the execution of his uncle while he was plowed, but don't quote me on that, it's been a few weeks since I saw the headline.  Still, sounds like a great place for a family vacation, doesn't it, so pack up the kids  ::)  Only Chernobyl is higher on my list (sarcasm).  I believe they're giving tours now.  There are no words.

To add to the barrels of laughs.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/how-dennis-rodman-can-help-the-north-korean-people/2013/12/17/b08e55dc-6689-11e3-8b5b-a77187b716a3_story.html

Again, if you knew anything about the reasons Rodman ended up in North Korea in the first place, you would have a difficult time finding anything about this funny. It's not funny when Footlocker mocks it in Kyrie Irving ads, and it's not funny when more players go over there. Nothing comical about people being forced to be morally bankrupt because they're financially bankrupt.

What kind of North Korean hard liquor is Rodman paying Vin Baker with?
