I missed tonights game against the bulls, I saw that we lost and when I checked the box score to see how our young players did that I enjoy following (sully/KO/Pressey) I see that KO and Pressey got 7:40 and 8:40 respectively.

At the same time Humph, Wallace and Lee were all between 17-20 minutes played.

This makes me wonder if a trade is coming soon or DA is pushing trades and telling Stevens to give these vets more time to showcase them.

So I'm curious as to what Celticsblog thinks, is this a clear case of showcasing talent for a trade, or is Stevens just playing the players that give him the best chance to win. If he is just playing who he feels gives him the best chance to win is that acceptable to use as fans that hes potentially stunting the growth of KO and Pressey just to try and win games now?
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

  • You say when......
Well....all that jump shooting will get us no where....its not as if Crawford or Bradley are high % jump shooters..so maybe it is tankology.....because good things happen when KO gets more touches....he makes us spread the floor....has other bigs inside..as someone has to cover KO outside....and then the fast guards can cut....it is also actually what chi did with noah.....and then to realize chi has no ball handling...our coach likes to press..so where was it.......we got pressers..!!!

Right, we all know we're a rebuilding team, and it doesn't matter if you want the team to tank or compete, either way we need our young players to develop.

Unless there's a trade coming soon, or DA is pushing a trade and showing these guys can still play, this playing time they are receiving is unacceptable.

I can't believe Steven's is out there trying to win now with guys like Wallace and Humphries instead of our young guys who look like they have some potential. To do so would seem like a truly wasted year. It must be a showcase and could be an indicator that DA is trying hard to trade these vets right now.

I really like seeig KO get the ball more he has such a strong upside on all facets.....funny how some say his D is weak....center is the 2nd most difficult position out there...it is always the centers fault on D..someone loses their guy....they blame the center for not picking both the guy and his own man,...the hardest is pg....in my opinion..tp for your side..! Cheers..!!!

Brad Stevens is just riding the hot hand, doing what works. No agenda from what I've seen.

I'd hope our coach is a little more forward thinking as he signed a lengthy contract with the team. To spend his whole first year just "doing what works that game" every game isn't how you build something.

Especially with players who in all likelihood won't be on the roster next season.

They must be showcasing everyone. Bass has been terrible. Worst hands in the league. He needs to just stick to hitting the jumpers. Other than his jumper he brings nothing to the table offensively. Can't pass dribble. Awful rebounder. Solid on D I guess. Hopefully he's traded ASAP.

I would much rather see Hump play over him. I think Hump gets a bad rap, would be a solid addition to a contender. The same goes for Wallace. He would be great off the bench on the right team.

I'm very disappointed KO didn't play much but I expected that. I was hoping his confidence was high and he would be more aggressive so we can see more of what he can do offensively.

Curious as to why you expected KO to not play much? He just had his best game of the season, why not let the rookie try and develop some consistency? Odd rotations this game.

Surprised KO played far fewer minutes tonight. Even more surprised Vitor played. He's pretty awful.

Gotta stop dumping on Bass, too. Dude is our second most reliable scorer and defends on the ball pretty well. I'd prefer to see Green shipped before him. Give Humph credit too. He has been the best player on the floor lately. He, Sully, and Bradley are the only guys worth watching imo.

Why would giving minutes to Pressey be more forward looking than giving minutes to Lee. Pressey is not good enough to sit Lee's longer contract on the bench if Lee is contributing.

It could be like benching House to give Pruitt minutes.

Pressey becomes pretty irrelevant when Rondo returns.

You mean he should be playing young players more often?

Getting owned by opposing bigs and losing probably isn't too beneficial to the development of young players.

It's not unusual for rookies not to get time. I think Stevens did a pretty good job hiding Olynyk's deficiencies and getting him 15/16 (or whatever it is) minutes a game.

iirc Stevens himself said practice is useful to the development of players and gametime is overrated. So that's what he thinks.

You'd have to have Pressey on that list. There's no point in giving him a ton of minutes.
