Just so he doesn't come here and this proves there are many Melo fans out there.

I think it's a good move for both teams. Clippers aren't a strong post team despite having relatively tall and athletic guys there and they would be a lethal run and gun team with Melo. I'm not convinced that the Clippers would do this deal straight up because of the age difference and contract year for Melo.

The Knicks need to decide what they want to do. They really only have 2 options in moving Melo. Trade Melo for another superstar or trade him for assets (young talent, cap relief and picks). Keeping him seems like a gamble at this point because they have very few ways to make their team better and Melo is seeing his peers position themselves to compete for titles (namely Paul and James).

This is the part where I steer the discussion toward the C's. We have assets out the whazoo. We could give the Knicks a jump start on rebuilding with picks and expirings while picking up their superstar to add to our own. I'm not Carmelo's #1 fan by a long shot but I'm also not delusional. Rondo and Melo would be a vicious tandem. Throw in a defensive anchor and a defensive wing and we're on our way to contending. So here is the offer:

Melo (and Amare if they want to unload him)
for
Anyone except Rondo and two 1st rounders (really whichever they want).

This trade accomplishes two things. It gives NYK some picks over the next few years to help the rebuild and it could moves their giant unmovable salary in Amare to smaller easily moved pieces like Green and Bass. If they include Amare they would have to swallow Wallace's contract to make the money work but even then they get a lot of value for Melo who might leave in 6 months anyway.

I'm not sure who could offer them more. Maybe a team in the lottery with expiring deals could offer an unprotected pick. The problem with most of those teams is they don't have a superstar and they are in smaller markets (Milwaukee and Utah come to mind). Boston has a star, has assets, has a history of winning and a great young coach which might convince Melo to sign an extension. That would be a prerequisite to any deal for virtually every team. Honestly I might even move three 1st rounders...they'd have to give me Shump though.

I don't really see the point of this trade from the Clippers' perspective.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.
