I'm personally convinced that Melo is leaving NY when he can. It's long been known him and Chris Paul are good friends and would like to play together.

There's also this from the NY Post today...

Quote
The Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls are on his short list, according to a source. The Lakers have cap space, but a reunion with Mike D'Antoni would be unappealing.

The Clippers would need to acquire Anthony via a trade.

Why for LA?
Combine CP3 and Melo. I also think Doc Rivers is made to manage rosters like that and think it'd be a terrific fit.
Paul/Reddick/Dudley/Carmelo/Jordan is a well rounded roster.

Why for NY?
They accept the fact that Melo is leaving and trade him for a young star who is locked up for 4 more years. Also happens to be one of the most marketable guys in the NBA and would be perfect for the city.

Doesn't really make sense for the Clips to do that.

Doesn't really make sense for the Clips to do that.

Why?

Blake is improving even though his stats don't tell otherwise. Plus he's being more aggressive, and getting 2.1 extra FTA per game, not to mention he can actually shoot a decent mid range jumper.

Rivers also seems to like Griffin, and Rivers has some power in the team.

Plus Griffin is younger.

Doc's the VP of Basketball operations for the clippers. He has a lot more of a say on who's on the team than "some power."  ;)

Anyway, I think it makes the Clips better, but I don't think it works out well for either side.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to dump a 24 year old big man for a 29 year old SF.  Especially when you already have a solid SF (Dudley) and don't have a backup big worth starting (... Jamison??).

Just doesn't make sense for the Clips.

I forgot that lol. Such a fancy title for someone we used to always call Doc.

It makes the Clips marginally better for now... The problem is can Melo and CP3 mesh together well? People forget Melo isn't just a good iso player... He bodes well with spot up shooting which CP3 can give him. But I don't know if Rivers would be interested in trying to tame Melo's antics.

This. Jackson is playing well for the team too. So I doubt a huge upgrade at SF is needed seeing as how their lack of a good back up PF isn't there. Unless Rivers believes he can slot Melo at PF.

I don't really put a lot of stock in the way guys play during the All-Star Game (for obvious reasons), but based on the last couple Olympic teams I think CP3 and 'Melo would be fine... I think 'Melo could do his game some good by doing nothing but catch, setup, and fire away, rather than a ten-second triple threat. He's still probably the second best scorer in the game next to Durant, and he's got a much better back-to-the-basket game than KD.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Since there is more motivation for the Knicks to get this deal done than the Clippers, they would probably have to include an additional asset or two...would adding Shumpert work? I see how this could be beneficial for both teams, but not so much that I see something getting done.

I think that would be a beautiful team to watch offensively.

It's a pity they went for Dudley and Redick on the wing though. If going small with Melo at PF, ideally you would want more physically impressive wings who can defend and rebound at a higher level to help compensate for an undersized PF.

But their (Redick, Dudley, Clips starting lineup) shooting ability offensively would be a beautiful thing alongside Melo and CP3. Impossible to defend. That starting unit would be the best offensive lineup in the league.

I would do it in a heartbeat if I'm the clippers. Blake is soft when it comes to playing good big men. Throw shumpert and Tyson Chandler into the deal.

Melo
Tyson
Whatever draft picks the Knicks have lol
Shumpert ---

Blake griffin
DeAndre Jordan

Clippers probably make the finals.

ReUnite CP3 with Tyson.

Starting 5

CP3
Reddick
Shumpert
Melo
Chandler

Doc would take Melo in a heartbeat over Blake who has barely any postgame
