Provided we somehow fail to trade Hump, do you want him or Bass as a back-up PF for the next 2-3 years?

Here is a stats comparison:

Pretty much equal all around with Hump being an inch better stat-wise.

For me, the biggest difference is the defense. Bass has the extremely valuable ability to switch on 3s very effectively. Hump is the better rebounder and guards "real" PFs better.

On the same salary, I'd rather have Hump.

Bass' stone hands is a big negative, imo. I do like him though.  But I'd have to go with Hump too.

Bass every day of the week. He's just a better overall, all around player.

He's not the better all around player, actually it's exactly the opposite.

Bass is the vastly better offensive player (better shot, better post moves, some skill off the dribble). Humphries is the better rebounder and shot blocker, the rest is perhaps a wash.

I will agree to disagree. I find both Bass' offensive and defensive games to be superior to those of Humphries.

I don't think it's sustainable to have Bass play a major role on a team where you don't have a volume rebounder at the C position. That's why I'd rather have Humphries.

Bass has frustrated me for years because, against good big teams, he's just not tall enough.

Having said that, he has really improved under Stevens and I think he will be a nice piece for a team who has a legit 7 footer.

Like Hump, love Bass, but would be fine with either of them if it's a backup role (I guess this means that we got a real Center and Sully is our starting PF?).

You can make an argument for bass being team MVP as of today.  If we have a true center, 6'11" and up who can affect shots and average about 10 boards a game it's a no brained, bass.  His knock, this year, is he is 6'8".  This season we've seen him improve every part of his game.  Celtics have the luxury of having three very good backup pf players.  To me sully is starter material but I don't see that bad of a drop off with bass or hump.

I think it'll boil down to which player can "net" us the best deal in a trade.  We have sully, bass, humo, Kelly olynyk as power forwards ( not even counting green can give you minutes)

No, his knock is that he rebounds like a high-schooler. Both Sullinger and Humphries are just an inch taller, and considerably better in that department.

I'd say Bass is the more versatile offensive player (i.e., he has a legit face-up game), but not necessarily better.  Hump generates more high-efficiency paint buckets with his superior hands and activity level, plus this year he's on par with Bass as a spot-up shooter.

Defensively I like Bass quite a bit better on man, but Hump's so much better on the defensive boards that I'd call it about even.

I agree that Hump's better overall - Bass has an edge in several areas, but has a much bigger hole in his game.

Bass is more "skilled," but Hump is the better player to have on your team.  The thing is that Hump is an annoying celebrity from the Kardashian thing and he fought with Rondo, while Bass plays super hard and seems like a cool guy.  It clouds everyone's judgement about who is a better basketball player.  If I said in a vacuum would you want the rebound oriented guy with legit size who can guard big men or the undersized PF who can hit long 2s you would take the first one every time.

It's a hard call.  I like them both as back-ups.  Hard-working and consistent.  I really like that Bass seems to continue working on his game.  He is posting up now in ways he hasn't before, and he is getting much more comfortable shooting with guys near/on him.   Hump has a reliable history of being a double-double guy.

Gun to the head, I think I'd take Bass.

touche!
both sully and hump (in limited minutes) appear to be far far better rebounders

I'd prefer olynyk behind sully.
