An executive of the Brooklyn Nets told a gathering of season ticket holders on Monday that the team could become "sellers" closer to the deadline.

The Nets have struggled to gel this season coming out of an offseason in which they hoped to become title contenders by acquiring Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Andrei Kirilenko.
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I guess it depends on what assets they could get, but they obviously aren't going to help themselves by finishing with a bad record - in terms of the draft.

the only thing that sucks in this scenario is Atl ends up with a lotto pick :(

Not this season. Can't reacquire a player you've traded away during the same season.

Moreover, the TE isn't big enough for either of their salaries.

I wish I knew the context of this executive/season ticket holders conversation. Is he/she already conceding to them that their season is likely over?

I guess if they could get the first round picks of a young team for either Williams, Lopez or Joe Johnson, but even then they still don't have their first round picks. We could be in good shape for the future with their picks.

I bet they go hard after the Hawks, offering them anything and everything they can to get their pick back.

This is very exciting news for any Celtics fan. Anything that puts the nets into rebuilding mode is great news. Hopefully they do trade away DW and Lopez for 1st rounders. Anything that makes them weaker makes us stronger and could potentially drastically increase the value of those picks.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

Wow. Their GM should be fired. If they blow up that team they just ran that franchise into the ground. Rebuilding isn't an option for them. They have no upper hand in any trade talk. Teams no they have no picks and they see how they are playing. Why would anyone give up a potential lottery pick this year. Their good players to my knowledge will still be under contract next year. Wait out the storm then press for their all stars. I just don't see them getting full value for their players before the trade deadline this year. Maybe the kings will push hard for dwill but if they do
Acquire him I see them drastically improving thus eliminating their high pick. Either way I'm glad cause my New Jersey friend rubbed it in my face that the nets took pierce and kg from us and were going to be the better team this year. He hasn't mentioned basketball to me all year. WIN

as someone else said, their only real option to rebuild is to get assets for DWill and/or Lopez. They aren't going to get anything of value for Pierce, KG, or Terry, or any of the other scrubs on the roster, and they have no draft picks. If they really believe that this group is done, they may as well start the rebuild and get some value for Dwill before he loses more of his appeal. Lopez though after having a 3rd fracture in the same bone of the same foot for a big guy may be harder to get value for.

As a celtics fan, would you consider trading Olynyk, something to make salaries work, and one of the Nets picks back to them for Lopez?

seems like wishful thinking. as others have mentioned, the only assets they have that they can get anything of value for are...well, now, dwill. pierce as an expiring contract might net them...a matching salary, which doesn't make sense. KG...they'd get very little in return. can't see anybody touching iso-joe's contract, nor injury-prone lopez. that leaves...williams. that's pretty much the only player they could hope to get any good assets in return for. they could trade him for picks and pray some of those work out (b/c they have very little cap space to sign anyone good), or else be stuck in .500 or below land for a while. which, they might be, anyway.
