The trade rumors surrounding Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo hasn't subsided yet, but this time, the All-Star playmaker is being linked to a potential sting with the emerging Eastern Conference powerhouse Indiana Pacers, a source close to situation reported on Sunday.

While Rondo is just few weeks away to making his return on the floor after tearing his ACL almost a year ago, the rumor mill continues to heat up once again with an earth-shaking Celtics-Pacers trade gaining significant momentum.

Ever since the Celtics regressed from a championship contender to a playoff hopeful, the Pacers has assumed the role as the chief rival to the two-time defending champion Miami Heat. In last year's Eastern Conference Finals, the Pacers came close to beating the Heat but they fizzled out in the seventh and deciding game of their epic series.

Blockbuster Trade in the Making?

There's no doubt that Celtics general manager Danny Ainge has developed an animosity towards the Heat after engaging in several emotional games during the Big 3 Era.

Now, Ainge has a chance to spoil Heat's three-peat party by supplying his former teammate and friend Larry Bird, who happens to be the Pacers GM, the player who would complete their championship puzzle while the Celtics are trying to rebuild their franchise.

In the proposed trade, the Celtics will be sending Rondo to the Pacers in exchange for serviceable veteran Danny Granger, George Hill and a first-round pick in next year's loaded NBA Draft.

For the Celtics, they would get a solid scorer in Granger, a nice, young combo guard in Hill and a first-round pick in a very deep draft class this coming summer. On the other hand, the Pacers will finally have a pass-first point guard who can make them a more potent team with Paul George, Roy Hibbert, David West and Lance Stephenson on the floor.

Grantland writer Zach Lowe provided a nice breakdown of this proposed deal even before the 2013-14 NBA season starts.

"The Celtics wouldn't mind their young guys getting to experience meaningful late-season games, but the guess here is that the front office would rather have at least one very nice first-round pick in a loaded draft," Lowe wrote via Latinos Post.

"In other words, look for everyone to be on the table. Bass might be the most tradeable guy, since he's a solid player with just one year left on his contract after this season. But bigger names will come up. Jeff Green has fans around the league, and Rondo's contract expires after next season," he added.

Will this trade happen soon? Only Ainge and Bird know the answer. If this trade eventually pushes through, expect the Heat to counter with a big trade of its own.

Nothing to see here, another made up rumor by some random site trying to get more hits.

Rondo is not going to get traded this year, at least not before draft night :)

Meh...

I would rather acquire a legit big like Asik first, then wait for Rondo to come back and see if we can make a legit run at the playoffs.

This wouldn't really be a bad move for the Celts if Granger could actually stay healthy.

Plus, I don't like the idea of Ainge being a seller instead of a buyer.

This has to be false, they keep saying loaded draft as if the pacers pick wouldn't be around 28 or something! Pfft.

So Danny pretty much gives away his best player in order to help a conference rival beat the Heat?

Funny thing is that Pacers already traded their 2014 pick to the Suns (Scola trade).

But hey, guy won't let a minor thing like that bother him in making up a rumor.

Please don't click, it's a waste of time

Was about to post the same thing.  Probably the most absurd Rondo "rumor" yet, as the Pacers are trading what they don't even have.

Now if he means our pick, even w/o RR we won't out bad enough teams to get a good pick! People are delusional if they think this draft is 8-10 players deep when you don't even know if these kids are coming out! I doubt Wiggins or Parker comes out this season but especially Parker. Expecting all these freshman to leave after 1 yr. is crazy. Now take Parker, Wiggins, Embid (sp?) out and what is left? Pfft. I can't wait!

If Granger could get back and show something, I could see some sort of 3-way deal where Granger goes to say Detroit, something good comes to us, and Rondo goes to Pacers.

My speculation probably has about as much chance of being true as the original article but it is out there so I understand why the OP wanted to put it up on CB.

my thoughts exactly...with the rate they are going, their pick is gonna be in the high 20s. Not worth it. And as most of you mentioned, the pick is already traded for Luis Scola.

I don't see Danny trading Rondo any time soon

Can't even imagine how good the pacers would be.

If I was a Pacers fan would be frothing at the mouth at being able to see Rondo and the restof those guys on the same tteam for the next several years

I'm all for tanking and open to trading RR for a nice package of picks and a young player. With that said, this is a completely one sided deal that makes 0 sense. I'd trade Rondo for a lottery pick and young talent, not the 29th pick.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.
