I just saw the news on ESPN so I don't know about the severity of injury or what source has declared it season-ending, but that seems like a long time. I know he has had multiple problems over the last few years but he has a full 4 months until the playoffs. Unless he sustained substantial damage, that time frame seems lengthy. I get they may be taking into account his history and thinking longterm (although they should go for broke this year). The risk was always health (and coaching), especially Lopez' and Williams' foot/ankle problems.

Regardless, sad news for the NBA. Too many major injuries that will alter the playoffs. I thought if healthy Chicago and Brooklyn could actually be playing in the ECF against each other.

The last time Lopez broke his foot, he was out for the season.  Foot injuries are no joke for basketball players.  You do everything with them, obviously.

Lopez just had that got repaired last year and was currently walking around with a screw in it.

25 year old 7 footer with chronic foot issues. No chance they rush him back this year.

There's only one way that I could see Brooklyn salvaging this season; that's a trade with Houston.  Prokhorov is the only owner in the league that would take on both Asik and Lin's contracts at the same time (I think, anyway).  If he were to trade, Blatche, Plumlee, and Pierce (expiring), for Asik and Lin, they could still be really good this year.  Houston would save a ton of money next year, and get good young bigs in return.  Possibly not enough of a return for Houston, but you never know.

Anyway, it's the only way I can see that Brooklyn could salvage a nightmarish season.

This definitely has implications for the draft picks we are sitting on, excluding the one this year that will go to Atl.

If Lopez is having chronic issues with the metal in his foot, the upcoming years for the Nets will be affected. Williams and Lopez is an excellent core, but just Williams is not a competitive team, esp when Pierce and KG retire and JJ ages.

You know what? With KG at the 5 and a few bruisers working the 4, the Nets could become very deadly. Not beyond the realm of possibility the defence actually gets better and they continue winning

I could def see them trading for Randolph now - Pierce for Randolph, Memphis buys Pierce out, Paul signs with LAC.

For Bklyn, they move KG to center, start Randolph at PF, move Joe Johnson to the 3, use a mish-mash at the 2, and hope AK can give them some Mike Miller magic in the playoffs.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

That could make sense if Memphis has thrown in the towel on contending, and they don't look like contenders anymore to me.

Not a bad theory. Blatche is good and after the last couple years KG at the 4 was pretty bad.

Houston won't sent Asik to the Celtics for two players who could help them now and a first round pick but Memphis is unloading Randolph for Pierce to buy him out.

I'm going to go ahead and bet that doesn't happen.

Celtics will find ways to shut down KG and that running mouth of his. Lol.

Boston Celtics clear favorites to run the Atlantic Division, once again?

Obviously not, the Nets would likely have to include a third team to get assets to send Memphis to sweeten the pot since they have no tradeable draft picks. Still, Memphis aren't a contender and the chance to shave salary would have some appeal to them.

But I do appreciate your attempt at sarcasm.

What would they give this third team to get them to give up enough assets to make up for the difference between Randolph and Pierce?

Obviously Morey put out the rumor in a last-ditched attempt to drive up the market for Asik before his Friday deadline.

Nets believe false rumor about broken foot, make panic trade for Asik?  That's ridiculous.  The Nets would never do something stupid like that.  The Knicks would, though.

I was thinking someone would hear Lopez broke his foot and decides to get Asik before Brooklyn ups the bids.

And I was thinking the Knicks are stupid.

Won't get any disagreement from me.
