How much does Asik make? Hoopshype can't be right...
His cap hit is 8 million and change the next 2 yrs, but his actual money made will be 5 mill and 15 mill this year and next, respectively.
Has to do with the way the CBA allotted the offer sheet he signed. Morey is a genius.
He's such a genius that he's huffing and puffing about having to pay Lin and Asik a combined $30 million (!) next season.
Wrong. He's such a genius that he paid Omer Asik $5 million for one season of elite defensive play and rebounding, the biggest thing outside of Parsons propelling them to the playoffs, and he turned that into a serviceable 4 and a future 1st while someone else pays the remaining 20 million in the deal
I understand the negative sentiment among GMs that the poison pill deals with Lin and Asik were underhanded and that now Morey is "getting away" with not having to pay the full price of the deal. However, it would be foolish to let pride prevent you from acquiring Asik if you really believe he's worth the remaining money. It's the league's fault for allowing such a loophole within the rules.
You can't really manage a team based on emotions. Look at Dolan nixing the Lowry deal because he was afraid of being punked by Ujiri again.
