Boston is going to have to sweeten it with a draft pick. Both sides going back and forth over which one, sources say.

Chris Mannix ‏@ChrisMannixSI
Teams dropping out of Asik sweepstakes quickly, league sources say. Rival execs say it's a Boston-Houston deal. No Jeff Green. Bass, Lee

Now, if teams are dropping out, does that give Ainge a little leverage concerning which pick gets included? I hope so.

I think you're right. Danny's in the driver's seat owing to the Rocket's deadline.

Moving Bass and Lee for a first rounder and getting a solid starter back in return is most likely going to be hard for him to match, though.

Lee's been playing great though Lee/Bass seems good enough for me not liking having to give up an extra pick, feel like we're getting took back to the wood shed here.
Lee has been playing ok in limited minutes. I wouldn't call that "great", I'd call it replaceable.

how about none? if they don't wanna do it walk away as teams are. pretty sure they'll give in Lee/Bass instantly puts them way over the top IMO those guys have been playing great and have postseason experience. I wouldn't budge if I were Ainge back off the pick Lee/Bass or no deal.

I don't see why we need to include a pick. Lee and Bass is fair return for Asik.

I think Lee's contract, while relatively low on a yearly basis, is not so great for long term flexibility. Also that's the problem with having so many picks stocked up. Every team you deal with is going to expect you to give one up easily.

I'm fine with giving up a pick if there's some kind of reasonable assurance it will be in the late teens/20s. Whether that means protection is added or the Celtics are confident in going all out for the playoffs this or next season, I don't know.
If that's the dealbreaker, Ainge can always keep Lee and give them Bogans (same contract with an option to terminate after this season). I assume the Rockets prefer Lee.

No way this trades a steal for the Celtics as long as we don't give up an unprotected late Brooklyn pick (2016/18) when they'll probably be a lottery team. Anything other than that is a steal, if we get Asik we're a playoff team this year and the Hawks are a playoff team so it's not like either of our picks will be that great

Mannix seems late to the party, but it's good we got a second outlet to confirm Wojo.

That's why I posted it, in part because his voice earlier was contrary to what most of the media was reporting (Jeff Green for Asik, etc.)

Not going to happen. Also, two rotation players with a low first-rounder is fair value for a starting center. It's not going to happen otherwise anyhow.

Your prerogative. I'm not going to lose sleep over trading a player who gets 16 minutes per game.

Beat writer for the Rockets seems to feel that there would be more to it than Asik from the Rox' end:

If Rockets are to deal for Lee and Bass without a third team's cap space help, Asik and Motiejunas contracts could make deal work.

For whatever it is worth, or not, Motiejunas, Asik share an agent. D-Mo desperate to play somewhere. He'd prefer it be here, but needs time.

Would also work, and bring cost savings to team that got Brewer if wanted that. RT @AdamSpolane: @Jonathan_Feigen what about Ronnie brewer

However, I'm not sure Houston needs more outgoing salary to match. Asik for Lee + Bass should work.

This. We literally have five sgs. I mean I like Lee and he's had some good games this year but give Brooks his minutes and let him develop. Once Rondo's back it's going to be a three guard rotation between Craw, Rondo, and AB anyway. Lee isn't going to have minutes

I don't know if you can really count Keith Bogans.

I'm just glad he's played well enough to be included in trade talks. That seemed pretty unlikely after last year.

Brooks is not going to develop. As a matter of fact, Brooks is only getting minutes because Bogans is hopeless offensively -- except our attempts to get a shot in the arm in the scoring department by putting Brooks in have invariably fallen flat.
