This potential trade keeps bringing the Vitali Potapenko trade to mind.  Our gaping hole at center being filled by a Euro big man.

It still amazes me that Pitino gave up a lottery pick for an inferior player.  I don't think Danny will get burned in similar fashion.
Potapenko was nowhere near the player Asik is, though.

Proposed Houston-Boston deal includes no third team, sources tell Yahoo.

Assuming it gets done (which I don't see how it doesn't at this point) then it is what it is. I think it's a very good trade for us, I'm excited

I don't see why we need to include a pick. Lee and Bass is fair return for Asik.

Probably due to Lee's extra year of guaranteed salary. He and Bass combine for just under $30 million worth of committed payroll.

I think Lee's contract, while relatively low on a yearly basis, is not so great for long term flexibility. Also that's the problem with having so many picks stocked up. Every team you deal with is going to expect you to give one up easily.

I'm fine with giving up a pick if there's some kind of reasonable assurance it will be in the late teens/20s. Whether that means protection is added or the Celtics are confident in going all out for the playoffs this or next season, I don't know.

That's not fair at all.  Neither is Lee, Bass, and a 1st rounder.  That's a Celtic steal.

Boston is going to have to sweeten it with a draft pick. Both sides going back and forth over which one, sources say.

Teams dropping out of Asik sweepstakes quickly, league sources say. Rival execs say it's a Boston-Houston deal. No Jeff Green. Bass, Lee

If that's the dealbreaker, Ainge can always keep Lee and give them Bogans (same contract with an option to terminate after this season). I assume the Rockets prefer Lee.

Isn't that a bit like saying Jerome Moiso reminds you of trading for Roy Hibbert? Asik and Potapenko aren't in the same universe as players.

That's probably a bit of hyperbole on your part.  Asik is a much better defender and rebounder, but he's also a truly lousy offensive player.  Asik is a useful player, and worth a #1 pick, but he's not Hakeem.

Anyway, I didn't compare them as players, I compared the Celtics' situation.  This trade made me reflect on that one, which was a terrible deal for the Celts.

Mannix seems late to the party, but it's good we got a second outlet to confirm Wojo.

Now, if teams are dropping out, does that give Ainge a little leverage concerning which pick gets included? I hope so.

sherrod blakely was talking live.  He sounded like he is already a celtic
Remember what I said about believing Donny Marshall? I'll believe Marshall over Sherrod any day of the week...

Yeah I think they've got fairly similar sources/levels of access.

Lee's been playing great though Lee/Bass seems good enough for me not liking having to give up an extra pick, feel like we're getting took back to the wood shed here.

The point is, Asik has a skill and a role. Potapenko was just a big body that ended up not doing anything particularly well. Hung around because of size and effort mostly.

Agreed I really like this trade. Hoping it's the Clippers pick but if it was this would be done. I trust Danny though with whatever he decides
