Asik trade rumors (deal reportedly off)

The more I think about this crazy idea, the more my green goggles tells me it's not completely unreasonable.

Houston gets Young, whom they've been rumored with Asik for a while now.  Ostensibly he's a better fit for their contending team.  I don't know why they get Brooks.  I guess it gives them an expiring contract filler for another deadline trade if they need it.  I guess.

Philly clears cap space for next year, gets a 1st round pick for the privilege, and continues to tank even more, which is certainly their end goal (and considering their first rounder goes to Miami if they make the playoffs this year, they have double the incentive). 

Boston gets a real center.  Not the best center in history, but an NBA-starting-calibre 7-footer, for this year and next.  I don't know why they get to shed an extra $6 million in payroll this year, but maybe that helps make up for Asik's ballooning salary next year (which they have to pay, even tho the cap hit is only 60% of his actual salary).

It makes some sense all around.  I don't quite know why some other team couldn't step in and one-up Boston's offer (although perhaps that is why this trade hasn't yet happened), but this is certainly a couple steps in the right direction from Bass plus a first, which is what I'd been hearing.

I should probably take off my Green goggles before I get disappointed.

Not completely implausible, but still one that seems like a stand-up triple for Ainge.

My gut feeling tells me the trade is going to be

Crawford and Bass for Asik and Canaan, if it happens. Green is not going anywhere unless Parsons is coming back and don't think the rockets would do that trade nor Ainge really cares for Parsons.

Reason Houston does trade: Beverly is shooting at a horrific rate. Not a consistent backup pg nor temporary starter. With Crawford , they get a good shooter and is able to handle some of the pg duties. Bass would be a nice vet addition off the bench. Much better with these two than Asik who has been in the doghouse.

Reason Celtics does trade: Asik gives the team an underrated Center. You put Asik beside Sullinger or Olynyk and now these guys can play their natural positions. Asik is a big body that can grab a ton of rebounds, block shots and avg consistently 8-10 pts a game (garbage usually).  Canaan is a throw in, but is a very good shooter/part time pg and i think could grow under Stevens (like Jcraw did)

Part of the reason I want this to happen is that it will give us some perspective on what Ainge's plan is, because we could be going after Asik for two completely different reasons.

Something like Asik for Green would be an ideal tank trade. Imbalance the team further, take away our primary scoring threat, but add a piece for the future.

Nabbing Asik for a deal centered around Bass or expirings + a first round pick would tell us that Ainge is looking to make a fist of the playoffs this year and start contending again as soon as possible.

So the deal would likely be

Atl would send millsap
Boston a bass, lee and clippers pick type deal
Cle would likely send waiters and filler
Phiilly could offer young or hawes

I'm just hoping Asik don't quit on us like he did in Houston if he gets into a situation again, if he lands here.

He'd be a great piece, defending the middle, controlling the boards and if if it's really going to cost us just Bass, the Clips' pick and MarShon Brooks, why not. We're playing really solid as of now, having a legitimate man who can protect the interior would put us a step above.

Yeah, it's the details I wonder about. Landing Asik without having to give up Bass? That seems like a long shot.

He just says that Bass and Green are among the candidates for the PF that they are seeking.  They're not going to get both of them.  I think of the players available, they'd prefer Millsap.  If other teams were to get Asik, they'll have to fork over a first as well (probably).

now Woodson will be out of NYC 1234435ala3356 hours before Melo but if not.. its the only centerpiece available I am ready to hear others and love them. not closing the call just asking for more btw
