To Loose Cannon:

"Haha, you see Pressey and Brooks as long-terms pieces".

In building a championship team, how much, exactly, do you plan on paying your 3rd string guys at each position?

$5-6 million a year?
$3-4 million a year?
$2-3 million a year?
$1-2 million a year?

I did not say I saw them as long term pieces - that implies they would play a significant role in an 8-9 man roster that can win a championship. I had them as 3rd strings guards - guys I would want to pay as little as possible to.

I think you have a better than 50% of finding a cheap talent from the D-League who is better than either player.  I'd be looking to cut ties with Brooks ASAP.  If he were on an unguaranteed contract, I'd cut him right now and use the money to take a flyer on a 7-foot center.  I'd give Pressey a couple of years to see if he can develop into something more than a mediocre third-string point guard.

Understand the preference for 3rd string veterans on a championship level team.  I also think you can have young guys or a mix in those positions. We won in 2008 with Big Baby and Powe developing and contributing.

No big argument re Brooks and Pressey. I too am more impressed with Pressey thus far than Brooks.

However, both Crawford and Bradley were not long ago guys who were projected by many with just about zero chance of anything resembling a successful NBA career.

Playing optimist, I'm hoping Stevens can pull the best out of Brooks within a year or so - find something to salvage. I'm sure if he can't the organization will let him go very quickly...

I've been predicting that Bradley could be the Celtics starting SG of the future since his rookie season.  I admit Crawford has talent, but I am highly skeptical of his ability to stay focused and disciplined for more than half a season.  I just have little regard for players with the skill set of Brooks and I don't see anything worth salvaging.

That's a bold statement, considering AB was hot garbage for the C's his rookie year.

Rondo who?

Rondo has never had a good coach.  I doubt he has really learned enough about Stevens team concepts.  That's why he is still sitting on the bench like a rookie, trying to learn.

Newsflash!  Rondo IS replaceable.

LooseCannon:

I don't anticipate Brooks turning into an all star, but I wouldn't be surprised if he turned him into a serviceable 3rd string off guard.

That being said, per my main point, I think if we could find the right 4th guard to go with Rondo, Bradley and Crawford, we'd be in very good shape in the back court for some time to come. As you mentioned a 3 & D wing would be very nice.

Rondo is an all star and Bradley has become very solid on both sides of the ball.

I like Crawford behind Rondo. He may be a loose cannon but he's one of the best junkyard dogs I've seen in a while too. He's a gamer, as Stevens said, and I think he and Rondo like each other pretty well so that bodes well for chemistry.

get me the 3 & D wing behind Bradley and I could really care less if it's Brooks and Pressey or a couple cheap vets in the 3rd string guard spots...

You are either confused, confusing or trolling (or all three at a time).

The above only makes sense, if you are talking about Marshon Brooks and not Rajon Rondo.

Actually LC and I were two of the few who were high on Bradley from the start and predicted success long term from him.

Isn't Rondo the scrub we got from Brooklyn who played like crap last night?

From what I hear on Celticsblog, Rondo's a scrub and locker room cancer who only shows up for national TV games and the playoffs.

I was very adamant at the time that Bradley was not a PG and that his future was as a SG.  I even dug up that he had never played PG at any level, even high school.  I believed he had a reasonable shot at being at least a 37-38% three-point shooter who could score 12-15 ppg and that his size would not prevent him from being a solid defender as a 2-guard.
