Lots of emotion will be felt at the Garden in the upcoming Nets game. I know we are supposed to move on and all that but would you take Pierce back for the midlevel so he could retire in Celtic Green?

I would offer him 3 years at the midlevel exception with 2 guaranteed and an off the bench role. I think he would be an asset and I hated losing him.

I know this is a fantasy for some people and it will not be taken seriously, but what if?

He'll retire in green one way or another. If it's not some exception, it'll be a 10-day.

I'd love to have him back on the team; I think he's still capable of playing at a high level.

He'll be back one way or the other. I'd love to see him play another season in green, but as long as #34 is retired and he goes out green I feel like he's done enough for us ;D

IDK, depends where the team is in the rebuilding process.  If we're still about the same next year as this year, I'd unfortunately say no.

Now, if we look to be back on the upswing, sure, I'd happily give the Captain a one or two year MLE contract.  Hopefully he'd embrace the 6th man role.

I think Pierce is still capable of 'bringing it' for 25 minutes a night (maybe more on occasion).  He hasn't looked great in Brooklyn this year, but I'm not sure it's entirely, or even mostly, due to his own decline.  Brooklyn isn't a team with well fitting parts.  Also, I suspect Pierce still isn't 100% fully invested in the Nets, and probably has been coasting quite a bit.  He sure looked darn good the night Brooklyn beat Miami early in the season.

of course.  I'm also hoping that Brooklyn continues to struggle and they buy out KG mid-season next year.  I'd welcome them both on our bench.

I don't know that I'd give him 3 years, but I'd love to see him coming off the bench instead of Wallace.

Given that we have Wallace/Green under contract, and that's likely not changing probably not. Plus in general the C's need to retool, not sign an older SF.

That's my head talking though. I'd love to have Pierce back in Green till he's done. Sucks watching him in a Nets uniform.

Why not ask him if he is willing to take the minimum (or the bi-annual exception) so that the Celtics can use the MLE on another player?

This.

I’d love Pierce back on the C’s next year, but would be disappointed if it was for the full mid-level.  Not that Pierce wouldn’t be worth it, but I think there’s a point as an aging vet when it comes down to “I’m just happy to be playing in a situation I’m comfortable with.”

If things don’t straighten themselves out in Brooklyn, and potential contenders like Indiana, OKC, Golden State, San Antonio, etc. were going after him, I’d have no problem with him taking the full mid-level (or more) from them, but if he comes to Boston, it can’t be about the money.  End your career here, know we’re probably not competing for a championship, know the torch has been passed, know you’re in a supporting role, know you’re a mentor, and just run with it and enjoy it.

If Pierce would only come back to the C's for the mid-level, I'd be disappointed with him.  Again, not that I’d have any problem with him if he went ring chasing and signed somewhere else for that, but if you want to end your career with the C’s, a team that’s not competing, don’t make it about money.  The C’s already signed you to $185m worth of contracts and you’ve never once been underpaid (excluding rookie contracts).

Something much less than the mid-level, and I'd be very happy with it.
