I would offer him 3 years at the midlevel exception with 2 guaranteed and an off the bench role. I think he would be an asset and I hated losing him.

Why not ask him if he is willing to take the minimum (or the bi-annual exception) so that the Celtics can use the MLE on another player?

This.

I’d love Pierce back on the C’s next year, but would be disappointed if it was for the full mid-level.  Not that Pierce wouldn’t be worth it, but I think there’s a point as an aging vet when it comes down to “I’m just happy to be playing in a situation I’m comfortable with.”

If things don’t straighten themselves out in Brooklyn, and potential contenders like Indiana, OKC, Golden State, San Antonio, etc. were going after him, I’d have no problem with him taking the full mid-level (or more) from them, but if he comes to Boston, it can’t be about the money.  End your career here, know we’re probably not competing for a championship, know the torch has been passed, know you’re in a supporting role, know you’re a mentor, and just run with it and enjoy it.

If Pierce would only come back to the C's for the mid-level, I'd be disappointed with him.  Again, not that I’d have any problem with him if he went ring chasing and signed somewhere else for that, but if you want to end your career with the C’s, a team that’s not competing, don’t make it about money.  The C’s already signed you to $185m worth of contracts and you’ve never once been underpaid (excluding rookie contracts).

Something much less than the mid-level, and I'd be very happy with it.
I thought about making it the minimum or the bi annual or something like that. I would see where his head is at before committing to the full mid level for sure. He would have to understand up front that he is being signed as a bench player and expected to fill a mentoring role regardless of the salary or years.

Unfortunately, players like Pierce and KG are usually type A personalities. This naturally makes it difficult to accept lesser roles as they get older.

Not for midlevel. I wouldn't want to spend that much money on someone who is not going to help long term.

He'll retire in green one way or another. If it's not some exception, it'll be a 10-day.

I'd love to have him back on the team; I think he's still capable of playing at a high level.

+1

I'm not wearing my Pierce jersey again until he suits up in green again.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

I went with other. If the Celtics can somehow shed Wallace's contract I would be all for it. Pierce would also have to accept a reduced role coming off the bench. I would love it if he came back and finished his career as a Celtic.

I remember him saying that someday he'd want to sign with the Celtics for one day just so he could retire in green.

I would take pierce back, but i would want to sign him for just 1 year at a time. Whether it is for a whole season or just one game, I would love for his last game in the NBA to be played while wearing a Celtic jersey.

never should have let him go in the first place
he was not the problem and would have been perfect for this current team

Of course as y'all can see I haven't even changed my sig yet, still miss the Truth. It sounded like Pierce even left the door open recently when asked about signing a 1-day or 10-day with the Celtics he said who knows if he'll even maybe go another year or something to that sort. I'm sure the organization would welcome him back with open arms if he wanted to come back here.
