Told Rockets want two 1st rounders or one first and good young player for Asik. Good luck with that.

If this report is factual i would love to acquire Asik. I'd give them Kelly O in a second along with a first rounder.

Thoughts on if he's worth this rumored amount?

no thanks. i'll pass.

Ok while we are being silly, Gerald Wallace, Crawford or Brooks and Clips 2015 first round pick for Omer Asik and a 2015 Rockets second rounder.

I figure they take Crawford and run with this deal. ;D

Certainly hope you don't judge all players less than 20 games into their career.

Giving up Olynyk for Asik might make sense if Boston was just one piece away from a legit shot at a championship. Asik is good, but Boston is not in that situation and Asik obviously does not get them there.
I judge players on their body of work to date. Like it or not, that's what Olynyk has been showing.

Given on how this season has panned out, with the addition of Rondo and Asik, our team will have a 9-man rotation that actually resembles a legit NBA team. I'm not entirely sure how much better you expect us to be in the observable future, should we keep Olynyk and exercise all our picks.

I'm not actively looking to give up on KO, but I'm with you; I do that trade.

Really, you add KO to this team, and you get Rondo back at 90%...  we're not going to beat Miami or Indiana, but we're got a pretty interesting, young team to build on going forward.  Rondo and Bradley/Crawford/Lee as the guards.  Jeff Green doing his thing.  Sully's been great, Bass has been outstanding this year.  Asik as the defensive anchor and helping control the glass.

That's a team that can play some decent defense and should be pretty good on the glass, which is going to win you a fair number of games (especially in the Eastern Conference).  You'd obviously love to have a true go-to scorer, but the odds of it being KO aren't great and we've still got trade assets/draft picks to keep building.

I think people around here significantly undervalue how important a guy like Asik is to have around.

  • Ashy To Classy, baby.
If Brandon "Great Eggs" Bass keeps lighting up, then him, j-crossover 2.0 and a pick. That'd do it. But I wanna keep Crawford and Bass, because they're keeping this season interesting.
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

someone add a 3rd team. Asik doesn't fit our needs but Bass and Lee do fit Houston's.

Humphries and the Clippers Pick (protect it top 10) for Asik---works salary-wise. Houston might bite---cause  Humphries contract is expiring, and it saves them from the last year of Asik's deal. We get to keep KO--add a 2nd round pick if we have to. I think we'd save a few Million towards this year's salary cap/tax.

Boston sends Bass+Lee to Houston
Boston gets Perk+PJ3+Dallas 2014 first rounder from OKC, future 2nd rounder from Houston

Houston sends Asik to OKC, future 2nd rounder to Boston
Houston gets Bass+Lee from Boston, rights to Abrines from OKC

OKC sends Perk+PJ3+Dallas pick to Boston, Abrines rights to Houston
OKC gets Asik

Not giving a young player of pick to get Asik/help Morey out of his "genius backloaded contract" trap.

Houston gets rid of Asik's 15M next season, gets the best player in the trade in Bass, a capable guard on an ugly contract in Lee, and the shiny draft rights to Abrines. That's worth a future 2nd in the 50s.

OKC gets rid of Perk's terrible (worst in the trade, maybe in the whole NBA) contract, gets Asik (healthy Perk) and only gives up Abrines' rights, PJ3 and a Dallas pick that may be in the 20s.

Boston takes on Perk's terrible contract, but he's a fan favorite, gets PJ3 and Dallas pick, plus a late second rounder that could be useful to get the next Colton Iverson. And cut almost 2M in salaries.

Houston and OKC get better this year, Boston gets worse but can take this step backwards because it will pay off as soon as 2015.

People are giving up on KO too quickly.

Yeah.  I think he'd be a nice option to have with Asik here.  Very different looks at the 5 between those two.

I think the Rockets are hoping for a desperate team to pony up, but I think they'll have to settle for significantly less if they want to get the deal done.

2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

15 million!! no thank you.

its very important to note that only 8 million counts against the salary cap. does anyone know if all 15 counts against the luxury tax?

Absolutely not.  Vitor per 30 minutes is better than this guy. I don't see the attention this guy is getting. He can't hit foul shots and he makes too much money.  He wouldn't make us better.

I think a little more patience with KO is needed and is reasonable.  I think KO's ability to shoot / stretch the floor matches up way better with Rondo's abilities than Asik.
KO has a good stroke, he will eventually be a threat from 18-25.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
If we had Carmelo locked up as a free agent, I'd go after asik.
He's overpaid on a backloaded contract....BUT only 8 million per year counts against the cap.
This way we could afford to keep Green as the starting small forward next to Melo at the PF spot.

Rondo would make him a solid piece around the rim...asik dumps all over Perkins and look how good Rondo made Perk look on offense with his easy looks.
Asik can get dunks and rebounds, whilst protecting the rim very well.
Green can get easy looks on offense because Melo will be guarded by the opponents best defender. Green can also guard Lebron, George, and the other elite wings so Melo has more energy on offense late in the game. We'd have a small ball line up and we'd still have Rondo and Melo on their big money.
Small ball line up with size and shooting.

Rondo 15 million
Draft pick shooter 1.2 million
Green 9 million
Melo 19 million
Asik 8 million

About 52.2 million and maybe more with Pierces trade exception and the MLE.
Very good starting 5 and MLE can be spent on SG if we have to.
KG & Pierce for vet min? With more draft picks coming.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Not sure how Vitor is a fair comparison. I love the guy but Asik's defensive stats crap all over Hombre. Earlier this year, Our defense was actually better with Vitor on the bench. Vitor does have a much better offensive game though.

I do love me some Vitor though. Danny seems to have found a steal and hes signed so cheap.
