I just posted a new topic arguing we hold off on any moves till the off season but oly, lee and the clips pick for asik is winner
Rondo, Bradley, green, sully, asik with craw, Wallace, bass as primary backups is a good team that retains picks, expirings and the TE to improve further.
Asik is a nonfactor on offense... Bass stretches the floor.  When Rondo comes back, you now have two less shooters in the starting lineup (Crawford and Bass both on the bench).  IS that an issue for a team that lacks an elite scorer?  What happens if Bass ends up out-performing Asik?.. you move Asik to the bench and hope he doesn't pout like he did in Houston?
Yeah, I don't like the pouting thing either and think Morey's asking price and time frame demands might be getting a bit steep given this guy could just quit on his team if he doesn't get to start or get his minutes.

What I'm saying is... part of the reason this team is playing so well is the same reason they played well post-Rondo-injury last season.   They have 5 guys on the floor who can knock down shots and they are sharing the ball.

When Rondo comes back, you gain a floor general but lose a shooter.  Rondo also has always needed guys around him who could knock down shots and pull defenders out of the paint.  It's why he worked so well with KG (deadly mid-range shooter)... it's why we traded Davis for Bass.  We had been trying to teach Davis the mid-range shot, but Bass is just far better at it.   Having bigs outside pulls defenders out of the paint and that allows the paint to be open for Rondo drives.

So you'd be losing a shooter when Rondo rejoins the team... and now you're benching one of our few offensive weapons and replacing it with a catastrophically bad shooter with awful hands?  You better be EXTREMELY impressed with Asik's post-defense if you're gonna do that.

Two first rounders? For Asik? They have made it clear he is gone one way or another in a few weeks, and he has made it clear he won't play off the bench for them, AND he's a highly limited offensive player who is owed a lot of money.

No way they get two firsts or a 1st and a young prospect for him. The clippers pick and Bass or Lee is all they should expect.

Man, I think you guys are crazy saying you'd include Olynyk in an Asik deal...

A skilled 7 footer on his rookie contract (who you just drafted in the lottery) for 4 more seasons? Not to mention Asik's is owed a whopping $15mill next year ($8mill on the books, I know) and then becomes a free agent?

I like Asik and think he'd be a nice piece if that's the direction Ainge chooses to go, but giving up Olynyk is crazy talk to me. I'm not even going to address adding Sullinger...

Only way I'd consider adding Olynyk is If they took Wallace with him. Olynyk/Wallace/LAC first, and even then im not sure id pull the trigger. You're giving up on Olynyk entirely too soon.
Asik is a somewhat proven NBA commodity. He's not a world beater, but he does what he does very well. So far, Olynyk has looked overmatched, and has shown very little progress over the course of the season, despite a steady diet of (rarely deserved) playing time.

Bass, Lee and Clippers 1st for Asik.  That's my offer.

I'll give them Wallace, Olynyk and a pick for Asik and Garcia. But I doubt that's going to fly.

Certainly hope you don't judge all players less than 20 games into their career.

Giving up Olynyk for Asik might make sense if Boston was just one piece away from a legit shot at a championship. Asik is good, but Boston is not in that situation and Asik obviously does not get them there.

This.

I have talked myself into this deal during the past few days and I honestly think it's a good deal for Houston. I got laughed off the RealGM trade board for suggesting a deal around Bass/Lee for Asik but what do they know?  :P

I judge players on their body of work to date. Like it or not, that's what Olynyk has been showing.

Given on how this season has panned out, with the addition of Rondo and Asik, our team will have a 9-man rotation that actually resembles a legit NBA team. I'm not entirely sure how much better you expect us to be in the observable future, should we keep Olynyk and exercise all our picks.

if the Sixers actually offered Thaddeous Young as some sources are hinting, then the Bass, Lee and Clippers pick idea is dead

Bass/Lee/Clips 1st for Asik is a good trade for both teams if you ask me.  Bass is an elite mid-range shooter and competent defender.  He obviously can play with Dwight Howard, because they have played together before.  He makes sense as a big man next to a center who can't shoot.  They would compliment each other well.

Meanwhile, Asik is a horrific shooter, has terrible hands, but solid post defender.

Courtney Lee is a solid backup SG who would be an asset for the Rockets.  He's a phenomenally efficient shooter... shooting 52%/45%/88% this year.  He's also a very solid defender.

And they get a 1st rounder.

Anything more than that would seem crazy to me.  Asik does somethings well (defend the post, outlet pass) and some things horrible (offense).  We're not talking about a 20 and 10 guy.  This is a Kendrick Perkins type of role player. He's only been a starter once in his career.  He's a second tier center at the most.  You still run the risk of this guy ending up on your bench for two overpaid seasons.

When Morray gave a backup big 3 years and 25 mil, a lot of people thought it was insane.  Now that he's gotten one good season out of the guy, he thinks he can flip him for all the riches in the world.

Let's look at an opposite approach...Rondo and Wallace (contract) for Asik and Lin

That escalated...about as fast as you'd expect Celticsblog to escalate as far as trading Rondo goes.

I really think Bass and Lee would help Houston a great deal. Of course, people who watch the Celtics once a year think both Bass and Lee have negative trade value and Ainge would be lucky to get an expiring for each.

People are giving up on KO too quickly.

Seriously, I don't get it at all. Our team is one franchise level center from being a contender - obviously that is really really hard to come by - but Asik certainly isn't that player.

I know I am lower on Asik than other people here, but if I am giving up a first or KO, then I want them to take Wallace. Bass and Lee (without a first) is the other deal I would do, but only to clean up our logjam at pf and sg.
