I thought I would resurrect this thread based on the new rumors that we are "in the mix" for Monroe.

Let's remember the source here: Bill Simmons loves to just toss out trade ideas.

I suspect the Celtics are "in the mix" purely in an abstract, hey-this-might-work-in-the-Trade-Machine kind of sense.

Probably, but it is still fun to discuss.

I would trade Monroe for Green. I would consider throwing in another player like Crawford but I would not throw in a draft pick.

To me Sully and Monroe would be a great duo in the post.

I listened to the podcast the other day and he was simply brain storming out loud.

Greg Monroe: 15/9/52% and 34 mpg

Jared Sullinger: 13/7/48% and 26 mpg

I get this isn't the best way to compare players but they are very similar.

Not to mention we have Sullinger on his rookie contract for 3 more years and he can actually shoot the ball.

I'm all set on Monroe unless Danny can steal him for some laughable deal around Bass and Lee.

They could. Perhaps I'm old school but I really want a plus defender in the paint and I'm not sure either player can be an "anchor".

I'd MUCH rather be building around Rondo, Sullinger, Monroe, and Olynyk versus Rondo, Bradley, Green, Sullinger, Olynyk.

I was never a huge fan of the Rondo for Monroe rumors, but they are slightly more interesting if you consider Caldwell-Pope coming back and Wallace going out. Gives us 4 years of cheap control on Pope, lessening chance we overpay for Bradley, and saves us about $10M next year even if we give Monroe $15M.

Greg Monroe kind of reminds me of Pau Gasol. 

Similar size / physical profile and skill level with soft hands.  Both players have had poor defensive reputations early in their career, but I think that, like Pau, Monroe can become a decent defender -- especially at the center position -- in the right situation and with some good coaching.

I think Sullinger and Monroe would be a really nice combination of passing and inside scoring ability.  With his developing jumpshot, I think Sullinger could space the floor well enough next to Monroe.  For his part, Greg needs to develop a free throw line jumper to become even deadlier in the high post area.

greg monroe is a glorified roleplayer, i've watched him a bunch of times this year and he doesn't impress me that much.
monroe's shooting % drops from 62% to 30%-32% when he is 3 or more feet from the basket. terrible. he doens't play much defense from what i've seen, the stats show that the team gives up a ton of points when he's on the floor.
and monroe's rebound % is just 15%, that's tied for 30th among NBA power forwards. granted, drummond probably grabs some boards away from monroe. but even so, that stat is reason for concern.
overall, this trade makes little sense to me, i think green has just as much upside as monroe, and bass is probably worth a late-first rounder on his own. add to that the fact that we'd have to end up paying monroe big $... i would rather see the c's make a big trade for either draft picks or a true superstar.

Problem is there aren't many "anchors".

Asik is available but we might be overpaying.

We've been doing pretty well so far this year without one.

I'd love one but I'm coming to terms with not having one.
