What do you all think of Melo in green?

If there was a good trade offer between Bos/NY, would you like to see the team trade for Carmelo Anthony? He's currently averaging about 26 points and 10 rebounds. I think it would fit in nicely on the court with Rondo, Sully, Bradley and another big. If we drafted a big man or one came here to play with Melo/Rondo, do you think our chances at contending would be good? If we had Crawford, Wallace, Lee, Hump, and Vitor coming off the bench I'd say our chances would be pretty good.
Edit: I'm operating on a pretty weird sleep schedule right now and I'm just now noticing I used the word "good" about 47 times. Excuse the poor writing.

I think he only leaves NYC in free agency if heading to a sure-fire title contender ... or if traded, I reckon Melo will have little loyalty to his new team and would only feel comfortable about him re-signing if the team was a clear title contender -- which would be a tough sell for Boston next year after they have given up however many assets it takes to get Melo here in the first place.

So I don't really view Melo as an attainable target.

I think Melo's enough of a talent to look good in any color.  Just a question of how much he would cost to acquire, if he's even available.

If the price was not as high as it'd definitely be I'd be for it.  I think he would be way better playing alongside a pass first PG of Rondo's caliber.

So no I guess, but because of the price tag.  Money to be spent in other ways as we go forward.

To add on to this: their management is completely incompetent. There isn't a light at the end of the tunnel for anyone who stays in NY for a long time.

Would put up with it if we didn't have to give up too much for it, though. One of the reasons that the Knicks are god-awful with little hope of extracting themselves, is because of the trade that they made for Melo in the first place. Nuggets have their pick this year, and right now it's in the lottery.

Also we'd have to have some sort of extension or somesuch in place.  I wouldn't want to rent the guy.

The Knicks are still a very good place for Carmelo Anthony.

They have a pretty good squad that is suffering at the moment from a short term injury to Tyson Chandler and some decline in their depth / role players from last year. Tyson will be back soon and the second is fixable over the long haul. This is not a bad team.

Secondly, the Knicks have terrific cap flexibility going forward. After next season (summer 2015) the only contract they have on their books is JR Smith (+ Melo hopefully) ... with New York City and the Knicks franchise one of the most attractive and marquee destinations in the league. Cap space + marquee star + great city = excellent opportunity to acquire top free agents.

Why leave New York for another work-in-progress team when the team he is already on can clearly build another title contender around him? Not to mention pay him more money than anyone else.

Yes, I can see Melo leaving a not-so-sure thing in NYC for a guaranteed title contender elsewhere but I don't think he leaves for less than that. He has been on enough 45-54 win teams that haven't truly been title contenders. New York still offers him a good enough basketball opportunity

Carmelo is not very young.  I don't see how salary cap space in 2015 is a great thing right now.

Carmelo Anthony is a max-contract guy.  I prefer for any max-contract guy acquired by the Celtics to be an above-average defender.

I'm not sure that his offense or his defense would fit into the sort of system that Brad Stevens seems to be interested in crafting.

Carmelo needs to be surrounded with players like Iverson's teammates in the couple years that the Sixers were decent.  Unselfish defensive minded guys who let Anthony take all the shots.  I don't think he's quite ready for the Paul Pierce transformation.
