I said in another thread that you could potentially do something like:

Boston trades:
Jeff Green - 3 years
Bass - 2 years
Lee - 3 years
Wallace - 3 years
Humphries - 1  year
our 2014 pick
Atlanta's 2014 pick
More 1st rounders?

Knicks trade:
Carmelo Anthony - 2 years
Amare Stoudamire's corpse. - 2 years

Why for Boston:  Get an all-star.  Gets rid of all the 3 year deals.  Then maybe they can trade Olynyk, the Pierce trade exception and another pick for Asik.  Try their luck with Rondo, Bradley, Melo, Sully and Asik.  Also... that would mean that all their big contracts (Rondo, Melo, Amare, Asik) would come off the books in the summer of 2015.  They could try floating Amare's expiring at next year's deadline... or they could target Kevin Love in 2015 free agency.  It's basically an all-in move that I find highly unlikely Ainge will do.  He'd rather just bottom out and land a star through the lotto.

Why for Knicks:  If they continue to stink it doesn't benefit them.  They don't have their own lotto pick.  Maybe if we give them a few draft picks and a few assets, they'd see it as a good rebuild move.

I'm not nearly as high on Asik as some people.   Dude has had exactly one season where he averaged a double double.  I get that his defensive impact isn't shown on the stat sheet... sounds like a Kendrick Perkins.  Do you really think anyone would beat an offer of Olynyk (a lotto talent), a 1st rounder and instant cap savings?  I dunno... I have trouble seeing anyone beating that offer.  I have trouble seeing Boston even offering that for Asik.

Apparently the Rockets are asking for two 1st round picks for Asik.  It was reported that one GM called their asking price "Delusional".

If the Knicks were ever dumb enough to give him away for very little, or we could sign him as a free agent for ~$15 million a year, I say sure.

Melo gets a lot of hate, but I think most of what you could say about him could have been said about Paul Pierce once upon a time.  Surround him with the right guys and he could be the lead scorer for a very good team.

I don't like Melo.  Paul Pierce is my favorite modern player.   That said, Melo is better than Pierce ever was.

You stick Melo with 31 year old Kevin Garnett and 32 year old Ray Allen, that's a contender.  Lol

I'd be down for Melo coming to Boston, if we could somehow get him (obviously while keeping Rondo).  I definitely see a contender to be built around a Rondo/Melo pairing.  Add a legit big and a couple of good '3 & D' wings, and you'd be close.

Melo is sill salvageable.  As a few others have said, he needs to be surrounded by the right teammates.  The one year Denver had a good mix of complementary players, they gave the (eventual) champion Lakers their toughest test (WCF).  The reality is, Melo hasn't really been surrounded by 'championship worthy' teammates very often.  Chandler and Shumpert are really the only two players currently on the Knicks I see as being good fits with Melo.  JR Smith is not, Felton is not, Bargs is not.  Of course, the real problem with the Knicks is Amare.  Things were looking pretty good that 1st year, but then the back and knee injuries took their toll on Amare and submarined any chance the Knicks were ever going to be legit contenders, as presently constructed.

The question is, does Melo really want this, or will he be content to stay in NY, and just continue to put up hollow numbers for a flawed team?  NY's management is terrible, and it likely isn't ever going to work there for him.

Carmelo needs to be surrounded with players like Iverson's teammates in the couple years that the Sixers were decent.  Unselfish defensive minded guys who let Anthony take all the shots.  I don't think he's quite ready for the Paul Pierce transformation.

His best year (and the best team) was the year in Denver with Billups, a healthy Nene, JR Smith averaging 15 points a game and Martin still being a double digit scorer.

TP for the explanation--I've got no dog in this fight either way, was just curious for the rationale.

Anthony strikes me as a mercenary at this stage of his career, so the conditions would have to be right.

But if you can get him for say under 20 million per year, and can immediately surround him with good defenders/shooters, I would do it.

Larbrd33's team of Rondo, Bradley, Anthony, Sullinger, Asik is intriguing. Bradley and Sullinger would really have to up their perimeter game, and a couple shooters off the bench would be needed.

Melo is going to age well. He's crafty and strong, he can shoot, and he gets to the line. The Paul Pierce comparisons are good ones.

If the Knicks blow it up and we don't tank, Melo may become one of the best centerpiece players we could hope to bring in.

Melo is more hyped and shoots more, but that's about it.

great offensive player
rest of game  :-\
never looks in shape
should dominate with the size

i just expect more from him, at this point he has been in the nba long enough to have grown as a player
i put him with josh smith, if he was on team great but not really sure i like the look of him in green

Yeah, I would take Pierce in his prime over Melo.

Melo has a better outside shot and rebounding.

Pierce had better passing, defense, all around game, and was still a load to guard.

Also, I think it is becoming more and more evident to get the most from him, you need to limit his time @ SF and play him @ PF next to a legit defensive C, preferably a guy who is a strong rebounder and good finisher around the rim (i.e. Dwight Howard).
