I realize this draft has star power at the top, but how deep does it go?   Specifically, if it begins to seem realistic that the NJ/Atlanta pick could end up in the 16-18 range -- how excited should I be?

Most of what I've seen gives it 7-10 drool-worthy prospects.

Also, consider what the talking heads were discussing last year during the draft--that if the 2013 class had started with the 7th pick (i.e. that there were seven players better than Oladipo/Bennett/Noel etc.) everyone would be raving about how deep the draft class was.

So using some bulletproof deduction, take a look at picks ~9-12 from last year;

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Trey Burke, CJ McCollum, Michael Carter-Williams, Steven Adams, and The Kylnyk

And the temptation to fold up tents at that point will almost certainly be really, really strong.

Who knows how many underclassmen will actually declare. But right now, I see the Hawks pick (via New Jersey) landing in the 18-21 range.

And in that range there are some interesting looking forwards like Perry Ellis, James McAdoo, Andreian Payne. Each year there are also the sliders that fall from the 12-16 zone to 20. That mid first round zone includes guys like Willie Cauley_Stein, Doug McDermott, Wayne Selden. None of these guys are stars, but they could turn into solid rotation players.

Anyway, this draft looks to be at least 20 deep with solid looking players. I feel good about what Ainge can do with that extra pick.
