  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
If the Celtics want to bottom out for the lottery then it's slightly possible. They could take NYC to town for future picks too- by future I mean the distant future lol.
I'd make NY take back Wallace's deal in return as well as it would give us essentially two less years of Wallace's contract because Amare can be terminated at the end of this year.

NY SENDS
Amare
Shumpert
Hardaway Jr
first round pick 2017
first round pick 2019

FOR

Rajon Rondo
Wallace
Courtney Lee

*We pay Amare for 1 season instead of Wallace for 3 seasons. Move Lee's deal too and make them absorb both Wallace+Lee.

*Hardaway and Shump are nice assets and the first round pick is probably 18-23 range.
*Amare's expiring (early termination option) means we would clear 25+ Million in one year, we'd also bottom out and guarantee a top 5 pick, with plenty of future picks from Brooklyn and New York.
*So yeah, essentially we'd guarantee a top 5 pick, with enough room to sign two max free agents and Jeff Green's excellent value contract.
Depends how badly the Celtics wanna tank.
Rondo could just walk to New York in 1.5 seasons anyway.

Personally I'd try and float Rondo else where and try and peel a top 10 pick whilst moving Wallace's contract before saying yes to this. You've got the rest of this season before the Knicks terminate Amare's deal anyway.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I like Shump, but Felton's never played well outside of NYC and taking on A'mare without shipping out at least one of our own contracts makes it a non-starter.
well the salaries don't work unless there is a lot more than just Rondo going to NY.  They could in fact take all of Boston's bad contracts

Felton, Shumpert, Stoudemire

for

Rondo, Wallace, Lee, Bass

I still wouldn't do that, but if they also added Tim Hardaway Jr. and Pablo Prigioni I might consider it.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I don't understand this rumor at all. Amare is cooked, done, etc, Shumpert is identical to Bradley, and Felton is much worse than Rondo. Why would we do this? We downgrade our roster just to get rid of contracts but take on Amare's bad deal?

So the Celtics and Knicks can then essentially swap teams (lol)

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Huge surprise - Knicks want a top tier pg with whom Carmelo would love to play. Honestly, there is a much bigger chance the Celtics acquire Carmelo than the Knicks getting Rondo. Even though the Knicks are currently better, they are far from a championship team and are in really really rough shape going forward with lack of picks and aging players on rough contracts. I guess they always have the FAs flocking to NY thing, but they need to start looking towards the future before it's too late.

Not a bad idea. The early word on Hardaway Jr. seems to be he's a good player and the Celts shed salary like you said.

Shumpert's identical to Bradley while being 5 or 6 inches taller.

So a 36 year old backup point guard would tip the scales for you? Interesting.

try about 2 inches taller. Shumpert is not 6'9

Bradley is about 6'2-6'3, Shumpert is 6'5

I've seen plenty of evidence that many fans want the team to bottom out, not so much that management does.

Another scenario out of this could be that Ainge just holds his cards close to his chest and monitors the Knick/Melo situation.

Apparently, he was critical of the team yesterday when they lost to the Hawks.

Perhaps Danny just bides his team and targets Carmelo as our new "KG" type pickup.

Just looking at our roster and a rookie head coach is enough evidence to convince me

This would be the smart thing to do. We have plenty of assets to grab a disgruntled superstar

like I said, 6'2-6'3. You conveniently forgot to mention that Shumpert is 6'5, not 6'8 or 6'9 like you initially claimed.
