Gut feeling Rondo will be on a plane to Houston for Asik before the deadline

My gut tells me that it is more likely Rondo is the top player on the Celtics for the next five seasons.  It also tells me I want a sandwich.

I really hope not. Not that I don't want him on our team, but if he's the best player we have then it'll be early  playoff exits at best.

I'm not liking your gut feeling...

I get trading some of out mediocre players for lesser players to help with the loosing games with out "tanking". But if Rondo goes out we should at the very least get a legit prospect in return.

You know what it took for Houston to get Asik, cap space.  Anyone could have had him if they had some and were willing to use it.  So if you want Asik, wait two years and clear cap space.

your gut will be wrong.  danny is a smart gm, especially when it comes to trades.  there is no way he's giving up rondo, an all-star/one of the best players in the league during playoffs year in and year out for asik. 

a one for one trade for harden - yes. rondo and faverani or rondo and avery and faverani for howard - yes, but for asik? one for one? no way in the world.

do houston have a bunch of really good draft picks to offer?  if not, the idea is even less likely (and it's already close to implausible) to happen.

Pretty interesting that pretty much everyone who has posted in this thread has ignored the Jeremy Lin part of the trade. Like the guy who said you don't make a Rondo trade for "Asik and roster fodder". Lin isn't roster fodder. He's probably the best player coming from Houston in a deal like this. Lin has been really, really good this year. I actually think he'd easily give you 18/6 on good percentages if given the reigns. Couple that with the potential of a crazy Randle/Asik front court, and you actually have a really fun young team.

Trade's not bad...as long as you get that top 3 pick. Issue is I don't think you are going to get a top 3 pick with Lin/Green/Sully/Asik playing in February, March, and April. That core will get you a bunch of wins in the late part of the season. Pretty much the definition of mediocre while being held by two more big contracts. I'd rather keep Rondo at that point.

I am the guy who said he was roster fodder.  Linn is capable of having hot shooting streaks absolutely.  So what, so are 1/4 of the players in the NBA.  He is a liability on defense.  When defenses are focused on Harden, Parsons and DH, yeah it is easy for Lin to play loose.  When he is more of a full time focus of an offense he has struggled.

Last year in the playoffs Lin averaged 4.0 ppg and 2.0 apg in 20 min/game.  He isn't what we need at this point, and I think we have seen the highest of the upside from him already, and it isn't worth giving up Rondo for, even with Asik.

Let's go ahead and trade our only allstar for role players.

Trading Rondo for us would be like when Minny traded KG: last resort when everything else fails.  We're nowhere near that bad, and even in the Toine years, we were better.

Imagine trading Pierce and keeping Toine.  That's what trading Rondo and keeping these other guys would be like.

In 2010, LA dared Rondo to shoot the whole series, which cost us dearly. In 2012, we beat an Atlanta team, that was missing Horford, and then we avoided Chicago because of Rose's injury, and went 7 vs Philly. Again, if Rondo is our best player we aren't going to go that far.I realize your Rondo's unofficial spokesman, so I expect nothing more than an elaborate response detailing the greatness of Rondo in 3...2...1...

KG wasn't coming off a major knee injury with a negative reputation and a rookie coach.  Boston needs to at least look at offers and I wouldn't exactly call Lin or Asik role players.

  Rondo didn't have his best series against LA in 2010 (he wasn't at his healthiest) and we still probably would have won that series if Perk didn't blow out his knee. In 2012 we didn't have Green or Wilcox or any shooting guard that was healthy enough to play halfway decently. Rondo was our best player, and we did go that far. Claiming we can't win in the playoffs with Rondo as our best player is like claiming he could never lead the league in assists. You've already been proven wrong.
