It seems to me that Bass would be a good fit for Houston.  Not as good as Bosh as was suggested but I don't see Miami trading Bosh for Asik plus parts.

Someone mentioned Bass + Faverani.  I would think that would interest Houston.  There always seems to be someone who will overpay though.  I have not seen Asik play enough to have a great feel for how good he is.  He is 27 so he may not become much more than he is (career 5.5 pts, 7.0 rebs, in 19.0 minutes).  His one year at 10.1 pts, 11.7 rebs could be an outlier that he never achieves again or it could be what he would produce if put back in a comfortable situation (and given minutes).

Can anyone say definitively how his salary would work if he is traded?  Don't we have to pay more than the $8.3M?  Is $8.3M what has to be matched and counts against the salary/luxury cap?

You got it.  He makes just under $15 million next year, but it only counts as $8.3 million in team salary.  Lin's contract is structured exactly the same way.

Also, Bass and Faverani is probably one of the most reasonable Asik trade suggestions I've seen thus far.

My understanding of Bass is that one reason he was traded from Orlando is Howard didn't like him.  That may be wrong or not the whole story, but accordingly, I don't see bass in Houston.

I would roll on the dice on him.   Would hurt tanking but he is a good player.

HOU trades: Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, Terrance Jones
MIA trades: Chris Bosh

'Thats so Morey'

One of the best trade ideas I've seen in terms of balance. Miami could even flip Chalmers if they want Lin to start but he can still play of the bench.

Unload Asik for a solid 3rd option in Houston.

If we're going down this road, might Houston be even better off keeping freaky Terrance Jones, acquiring a future pick, and rolling out a starting five of Lin, Harden, Parsons, Bosh, and Asik?

What's happening with Howard in this situation?

He's getting traded to Miami for Bosh and a future pick.

Bass is a nice starting point, but obviously not enough. I think the logical next step is Bradley or Sully. I'd probably ask for Greg Smith back as well.

Asik & Smith for Bass & Sully or Bradley.

Excellent defensive centers don't grow on trees. And I don't see Ainge trading picks if he can avoid it. So this would likely be the price for Asik. I'd assume someone more desperate to "compete now" would pony up more for him, but presumably Morey would prefer to trade him to a bad team like the Cs (if at all).

I think you offer Bass, Olynyk and pick(s). Don't trade Sullinger for a non All-Star while he's on his rookie deal. Houston can use Bass, Olynyk has some value as well, and we have lots of picks.

An Asik / Sullinger front line would be very interesting if they can gel - one elite defender, two strong rebounders, and Sullinger takes more of the offensive load.

yea i agree with everyone, Asik be great but price too high....but what if we can get a 3rd team involved? idk who that team would be yet b/c i'm not sure what houston really wants...just a thought here

like this:

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=msvck7c

bos: asik
OKC: bradley and bass
hous: perk and reggie jackson

No way I'm trading Bradley and Bass just to get Asik.

But, we very well might lose Bradley for nothing in free agency.

I would NOT give up Sully personally.  I might Avery since we might lose him to free agency anyways.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
If Ainge wanted a good (not great) center, don't you think he would have acquired him by now? I mean, players like Gortat, Okafor, Jordan, Hawes, Blatche, etc have been floating around for a while and it doesn't seem like we would have had to give up the farm for any of them.

Asik is a nice player and probably better than those I listed, but makes a somewhat hefty salary and isn't really in the attainable upper-tier (Cousins, Monroe, Aldridge, etc). I guess if we could get him for Bass and Lee, we go for it; otherwise, I am okay with waiting until we get our definite center for the next 10 years.

I think you are vastly underestimating Asik if you are placing him on the same tier as those names.

Asik was second in total rebounding percentage last season and might single-handedly turn the Celtics into at least an average rebounding team.  He is a very good defensive center who is in the Dwight Howard/Kevin Love tier of rebounders.

He is exactly in the same tier as those names, as he is only a factor on one end of the court. You may choose to value defense more than offense and shooting, but that's a completely different story.

Also, a healthy Okafor is head and shoulders above all other names listed in this post.

I think DA will make an offer.....but  I seriously doubt he offers any of his future players like KO or Sully or AB  or Rondo   .........but I'd be all about dump n.  Wallace,  Brooks, Hump   Or Bass and Lee

Please don t trade EL Hombre......he is just too much fun to watch .

The point is, he has elite-level defense and elite-level rebounding.  He's much closer in value to a healthy Tyson Chandler (a guy who is only slightly more useful than Asik on offense)  than any of the guys who were named.  (Or do you lump Chandler in with Blatche and Gortat?)

Danny Ainge will pull another Kendrick Perkins this season on Avery Bradley! Count on that!  ;)
