  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
While it is GREAT to see the Celtics win games like the Heat game the other night, I would personally rather generally see competitive losses with our young players and end up in the 20-25 win range.

I get that we have a lot of decent young pieces, but [other than Rondo] we have no real stars to build around. I want to get this season over with and move on to the future.

I agree with those that really have no desire to see Wallace, Humphries, and co. earn us a few extra wins. If we are going to win, I want them to come from our younger players.

I'm still not, I dont want to be the Timberwolves or the Trailblazers, or Grizzlies for the next 10 years I want to tank and get it over with.

I understand.  But the thing is that we are not giving up on the future if we are playing the future and still have tons of first round picks for the next several years.  Granted we might lose our chance to get a top 5 pick, but who's to say we can't make the cake and eat it too...

The best way to get a 'top 5 pick' -- without the gamble that they are a bust -- is to let someone else draft them.  Preferably a small market, crappy team.

Then, after a few years, you acquire them via trade / free agency.

That's how most championship teams are built.

Even if we don't end up with a top draft pick next June, that doesn't mean that one of those guys won't eventually end up on the Celtics.

Well you need two superstars win a championship (in most cases). Most championship teams or teams that make the finals are built by drafting a superstar and building around him via the draft, trades or free agency.

You need a superstar starting point- and then you need to add more superstar or All Star help to that starting point to win a championship. Unless you're Dirk Nowitzki, and you don't need any help. (other then that DPOY in Chandler defending the rim).

The Celtics don't have a superstar. We have a bench All Star that can't shoot and has only ever played with superstars.
I'll also mention that after this season, he'll have one more season before he's a free agent.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I love playing hard... watching the top talent tonight though it's hard  :P

The good thing is there looks to be a lot of talented players, but I'm worried some will come back to school for a year to be top picks next year.

Celtics need a top pick whether that is to draft the next star to come to Boston or to trade it with a package to land a star

Still its only 8 games into the season..generally in the NBA talent wins out in the end...the c's could very well go on a 10 game lose streak after this.

In the meantime its nice to see the young guys like Bradley sullinger and olynyk develop,

I love these circa 2008 scouting reports. And if you're going to look down your nose at "bench all-stars", how many all-star games did PP start? How about Ray?

I'm surprised you didn't go with "Rondo was voted to start last year's ASG".

Looking at Jrue Holiday after his all-star appearance reminds me how little we should pay attention to all star games.

It's always a tossup between "what you said about Rondo just isn't true" and "if you heard the same comment that you made about Rondo made about any other star player you'd claim it was absurd".

What's the difference between "bench all-star" and "superstar"? Apparently nothing.

Its sad that people will think Pierce was a less player than Anthony because Anthony has "started" more all-star games in his career.
