For pete's sake, Jordan Crawford starts.
Yes, and he beat Wallace for the starting spot fair and square.
Yep, we looked much better as a team with Crawford starting last night. For once this year we looked like a legit NBA team.
And as much as I don't like Bass, and I REALY don't like Bass, I have to admit Stevens has managed to get to him and make him a better player already this year on both ends of the floor.
Crawford takes some of the most awful shots I've seen, both in terms of form, and in terms of shot selection. But he can and does get people involved. He won't be confused for a great PG, but he's a tolerable stop-gap solution. Consider this: he's shooting .500 with a 3 to 1 AST/TO ratio.
Wallace couldn't score, couldn't distribute very well, and his (declining) physical gifts were largely nullified when he was matched against faster players. He has one assist less than Crawford on the season, and 12(!) more turnovers.
The only thing I don't like about Bass is that he's not a great rebounder, which pretty much requires that we pair him with an above average rebound in order to get good results. Otherwise, he's pretty good offensively and defensively -- I don't think it has much to do with Stevens, it's just more noticeable when he's higher up the totem pole.
Crawford is TERRIBLE. You could see all night that he was looking only at his defender, to attack and dish if he had to after attacking. No directing an offense, it was 90's ISO ball with him.
At least Bradley tries to actually be a PG; he's just not a good passer, and great off the ball. I'd say that's more tolerable than the Crawford Show, even though Crawford is a more skilled ball handler and passer. His problem is wanting to be like Mike a bit too much, when he'd be better off trying to be Gary Payton.
Bass I like for not making many mistakes and being an increasingly scrappy defender, but I side with Wallace still being better as a F due to being multipositional, with better passing (can't be worse than no-pass Bass) and shooting (3pt range helps). Wallace is still a great defender against F's of the type that Bass would line up against.
I still put just-past-prime Wallace ahead of both Bass and (barely in the NBA) Jordan Crawford. Wallace pushes the ball well off of rebounds and creates breaks. We're better with him, at least to the eye.
