If the current team's struggles relative to the top of this draft is the main attraction of this season, I feel like rooting against the Nets(and Hawks) regarding our other pick is making for a worthy second feature.

Throwing out this most recent draft, the previous 5 ('08-'12) have yielded a slew of good rotation players and starters, as well as Hibbert, Holiday, Lawson, Sanders and Kawhi Leonard  all picked from out of the 'teens.

So with that said, anybody have a feeling for how this draft compares in terms of depth? I realize it's very early. In the meantime, I'll be rooting for the Jazz tonight....

Edit: And also, I searched but couldn't find the conditions of the 2nd round picks we traded Dallas to move up for Olynyk. If we have our own in '14 still, it may be low enough to trade up a few spots..

Looking at the list of picks owed to Boston over the coming years makes me feel happy inside.
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

Yeah, I remember feeling pretty miffed that we'd given up that much to move up just a couple slots.

Feeling a little better about it having watched KO play.

So Nets have no picks until 2017 and no cap space until 2016 they could be very bad in 2 years and that could net the C's a few lottery picks.

There seems to be a lot of small forward type (6'7" - 6'9") players available in the middle and the end of this upcoming draft.  Some of those are tweeners a la BBD, Bass, Sullinger and company. Obviously not all will be players, but you could find a very good one with the Nets pick, regardless of where its at.

I.E.

Boston ends up with:

#4 overall - Marcus Smart PG
#23 overall - James McAdoo SF/PF

If we end up at 4 we're better off with Joel Embiid, assuming Wiggins/Randle/Parker go 1,2,3. And that's not even mentioning that Dante Exum would be a better fit beside Rondo.

Probably true.  I was just throwing an example out there.

Since it's pretty loaded with SF/PF types, you might be better off going with Exum, Embiid, or Smart with that first pick.  Then hit on a SF later on.  Again, assuming those 3 you mention are gone.

I'm definitely fine with it.  Olynyk was voted a steal where he was taken and it really seems that way.  Which means he should have been a top 10 pick.

Plus I like Iverson who they took 2nd.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I bet we go one of the top 6 guys (aside from Marcus Smart..don't care who), and if it's there, a stash pick. Maybe Saric.

Okay, so I'm looking at NBAdraft.net.

They have guys like Mitch McGary, James McAdoo, Aaron Gordon  in the 20's. I've seen McGary play, and he may not be a superstar but he can sure be a starter with his tenacity to rebound. McAdoo and Gordon, don't really know a lot about them except for being athletic.

Then they have Alex Poythress in the 2nd round, who's somewhat a mirror image of Jeff Green, only right handed. LeBryan Nash who was once thought to be a star in the making along with Isaiah Austin in the 2nd round as well.

Not sure about Nash, but Poythress and Austin are thought to be lottery to mid round picks if they would have came out next year.
