I'm not sure that we're ranking so much as that we're terrible.

We might need a thread on defining tanking. I think everyone has a different definition.

I think to tank means to fail, and in sports to intentionally fail in terms of wins and losses.

There are different ways to tank. Playing players out of position. Intentionally putting together a roster that will have difficulty winning. Letting injured quality players take their sweet time recovering from injuries, when they are medically cleared to play. Playing inexperienced players over veterans who are better players today. I think those are all legit ways of tanking while saving face.
I am sure there are more ways to tank, veiled or not.

One thing we all agree on, we are not a good basketball team on a rebuilding year (dare I say the first of a few).

Where the disagreement comes in is indeed, what tanking really is.

We're not good enough and we are losing but we are competing every game, trying to win. If that's "tanking", then that's probably okay. I mean what else can we do, we are not good, but we play hard, we try to win.

And then there's the encouraging and cheering for the loses, and the terms you suggested. That's where most fans (me included as well) have a problem.

And Gerald is now speaking up again. Good for him

And clearly, I think there's a certain player or two he's referring to.

Gee, maybe Ainge doesn't know what the he*l he's doing.

I'm totally cool with a tank-job.  I'm glad we're doing it.  It's the right move.

Look at the bright side.  We are only half a game behind the Heat in the standings.

Tanking was the right move.  Ainge made a smart decision to tank this season.  There was no sense in milking another 41 win season out of KG, Pierce and Rondo.  Especially with this huge draft class coming up.  Trading KG and Pierce for a boatload of draft picks was a heist.  Throwing the season was a bitter pill to swallow, but it was absolutely the right move for this organization's long-term future.  I'm fully in support of it.  I have no gripes about Ainge having tanked this season.  I would have traded those guys over a year ago and tanked last season if given the option.

If by right you mean cheap and and cowardly, then it is.

His body language in the last 2 minutes during that 8-0 run was clear as day. The look on his face after the loss even more so. I like that, the Cs should be ashamed of the way they closed out that game, Jeff Green in particular was very frustrating to watch. He looked like he was eating a bad piece of pizza. Annoyed, but only a little. Not enough to do anything about it.

Bottom line... Ainge tanked this season the second he traded our best defensive player and best offensive player for future considerations.  I came to grips with the tank-job months ago.  I'm sorry that some folks are just now realizing the obvious.  If this mismatched group of role players manages to win 30 games, it's a massive over-achievement.

It'll sting for a few months, but long-term you're gonna love how this turns out.  Let this group of scrubs putter away to a 24 win season, get that top 8 pick... and then start building a competent team.   No brainer.

Hahahaha.  I love how you use the past tense when talking about how this season has been "tanked"  with about 97.5% of the season still left.

I agree, for the most part. But of all the tank jobs going on right now, I hate ours the most. Philadelphia, Orlando, Phoenix, those teams are tanking, and there is no mistake there. But their guys looked like they were an actual team that wanted to be there, I've watched all 3 of Orlando's games this season, and in the games they lost, they still held their head high, and left it on the floor. They lost, but there wasn't any shame associated with it.

But watching these Cs is giving me agita. They look so...ugly. Like they're faking being a NBA team. Jeff Green sulks between highlight plays, Sullinger looks...well terrible. Olynyk gives me a little hope bouncing around out there, but meh. Everyone else aside from old man Wallace looks like they're just collecting a paycheck.

It's gross. A bitter pill indeed.

The guys are not tanking or coach....... Your right .......DA put he team in position  without enough talent .   Or upper end talent....DA set it up so we would suck

By the time Rondo sees the court it will be too late ,  the hole is dug an d just a Matter of which lottery pick  we end up with.

I hate that th team has to go to th bottom , but I think it's the only choice at the moment

Are we even sure that Philly is tanking right now? I mean, they are leading the division.

I agree you on Orlando and Phoenix. I can accept the loses as long as we try our dandiest. Right now everyone that needs to step up is playing bad. Bass, Hombre and Wallace are our only bright lights.

Green took plays off, Avery looks like a darn rookie and Sully had some flashes and then was gone.

Not only are we bad, we're looking like we are being bad on purpose. How can we blow an 18 point lead!?
