Probably because Daryl Morey is in no rush to make a deal.

If Morey waits long enough he can probably land a player like Rondo for pennies on the dollar.

Rondo, Harden and HOward would be a pretty solid core.

I have two comments-

(1) I agree with those who have pointed out that Asik is more valuable than Anderson, and Morey does not need to be in a rush, here.

(2) I have never understood the argument for why we would trade away Rondo, why we would trade for Asik, or why we would do both at the same time.

I have always thought that any trade with Houston and Boston involving Rondo would have a third team involved.  Something where Rondo goes to Houston, Houston gives up Lin, Asik, and some young players of which the young players go to Boston who then flips Lin and/or Asik elsewhere for other assets.

A trade like this might work.

Boston - Lin, Varejao, Zeller, Jones, Houston 1st
Houston - Rondo, Bass, Lee
Cleveland - Asik, Motiejunas

Varejao has a team option so he has a lot of value, you pick up an ok PG in Lin, two young players with promise, and a first, while dumping the salaries of Lee and Bass for Rondo.  Cleveland gets a healthier younger center than Andy and a cheaper (though not as good) PF prospect to replace Zeller.

Not sure Cleveland would trade Varejao and Zeller for Asik, even if they do get Monty.  Bynum/Varejao/Zeller seems better than Bynum/Asik/Monty, if for nothing else, for fit alone.

I guess ATL will offer Milsap for Asik and it will be just a perfect trade for both teams

Not really, although he's a better fit.  While Dwight has shown success with a stretch 4 (though Lewis was better than Andersen), Houston needs rebounding and defense 100x more than more offense.

We're not talking about teammates like Nelson, Lee, and Hedo who need a Dwight-centric offense to get them open shots, we're talking about an MVP candidate in Harden.  The ball should be in his hands at all times, he should be making the decisions, not Dwight.  Use Dwight as the elite pick and roll player he is, don't force him to post up and make passes.  The receiver/finisher, not the initiator.

Houston has probably the first or second best chance at making it out of the West, let them prove they actually need help before you go changing their whole look.  Who do you want guarding the paint against LeBron and Wade, Dwight and Asik or Dwight and Andersen?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
It actually makes sense for both teams. Howard and Anderson reached the Finals, that's a pretty encouraging result. Everyone knows they already fit perfect.

And having two defensive bigs in NO would do nothing but great things.

I myself watches this idea closely. I really think this can happen.

2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

I agree with mgent Asik is a better fit on the current Houston team.
And no way are they giving up the potential to grab 30 rebounds as a tandem

For the record, Orlando lost in the first round both years Anderson was with the Magic.  I assume you're referring to the more recent of the two when he averaged 16 points, although I'd hardly call that Dwight and Ryan's team.  He was simply the best 3pt shooter on a team that shot nothing but 3s (250 more than the second place Knicks who shot a ton).  And he was dared to shoot most of those 3s as teams had to leave somebody wide open to help on Dwight, and they chose to help with their PF leaving the 23 year old instead of proven players like Nelson, Redick, JRich, and Turk (2 more per game than them).

Edit:  Oh, apparently Anderson played there 3 years (they lost in ECF his first year, 14mpg).  And while on basketball-reference I checked, Rashard Lewis has the only season with more 3P per game from a big (Anderson would be 2nd in 3PA per game too if not for Antoine).  Also he's first in both these categories in per minute.

I don't think Ainge is dumb enough to trade Rondo for pennies on the dollar.

He has to do it now before Rondo becomes a sullen, undermining, team cancer.  Plus, Rondo's already 32 years old, coming off quadruple knee surgery.  Plus, he's never been more than a glorified role player.

Get rid of him while we can!!

He's also never managed to improve his mid-range jumper! Don't forget that.
