Because it's the strategy for the season.
1) build up Green's trade value whilst not winning more than 25 games.
2) Get Rondo back for 15-20 games and build his value up as much as possible. (without winning more than 25 games)
3) Build Avery's value
4) Build Sully's value
5) Try and build Bass+Lee's value to contenders
two paths are possible as this stage- but they both need our mediocre role players to look better than they really are.
1) Go nuclear and full blown rebuild mode. Get as much as you can for a package of Rondo+Green+Bradley while dumping Wallace's deal in picks/young talent.
Or
2) Try and move Green+Avery+ Wallace in order to get cap space for some real superstar free agents or draft picks to help Rondo.
The goal for Danny is nothing less than a championship, as soon as possible. Rondo's 28 or 29 now so he's got 4-5 good years left of 'prime time'. Either get him the All Star help he needs now before extending him by moving our solid role players/bums/hopefuls
OR move him and get what you can back in order to rebuild as fast as possible.
We need to showcase these ponies and build their value up.
Danny needs to move them for mid first round picks or package them with Rondo to take back salary and a lottery pick, or use them to get a superstar big man + All Star wing player of some kind.
Which is it?:
You are just guessing?
You couldn't find Rondo's actual birth date on the inter webs?
You couldn't borrow an extra set of toes or fingers to do the math?
You think Rondo is lying about his age a la Shabazz Mohammed?
Or, you are deliberately giving false information to prove a point?
Anyway, I'd like to set the record straight:
Rondo was born on February 22nd, 1986, making him 27 years old now.
I'm sorry. I stand corrected. I actually thought he was already 28. If he does come back in December then by the time he plays a game this season he'll be 3 months away from 28.
So yeah, he's got 4 or 5 years left in his prime- give or take 3 or 4 months. If we keep him we obviously want to capitalize on those years. If not, we want to capitalize on opportunities to get us closer to a championship and give us maximum value for him while he's still considered an All Star level player.
No need to get defensive or angry- It's just my opinion. I understand it's frustrating when you start realizing that it's quite possible that we are tanking.
Nothing of anything I've said is less opinion or conjecture than anything you or anyone else has said as to why Stephens sat Jeff Green at the end of this game.
In my opinion Doc wouldn't have sat Pierce in that situation last year- or Jeff Green now that he's the go to guy. Heck even KG on restricted limits played the last 5 minutes in close games like that.
Again, why would we sit our best player, who's having a monster game- who doesn't have any minute restrictions, at the end of a close, easily winnable game like that?
Who knows- all we can do is speculate.
My opinion is that we sat him to increase our % chances of losing.
Just like losing as many games like the Toronto game as possible this season will increase our % chances of getting Wiggins or Parker.
Danny's a numbers guy.
