  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I'd rather be playing in the Playoffs and be in NBA "purgatory" than trying to suck for a CHANCE to get the number 1 pick.

Not to mention that despite the hype, not only are we banking on a chance to get that top pick, but we are also banking on the said player to make the hype real. And that's at the expense of disrupting players' confidence and hindering their development.

If we get Wiggins, we get Wiggins, but not by on purposely sucking. I'd rather have the mid round picks and make the Playoffs. At least our young guys are getting experience and are developing and headed in the right direction.

Tanking IMO is for people who doesnt have any competitive spirit whatsoever, that the only thing they think they can compete is to play around with the system instead of trying to get better the right way. And I dont want my team to have that kind of identity.

Amen Bro;

The dark ages of the 90s still hurt for me today; Made me almost wanna give up on the Cs then;

Ainge, Stevens and the Cs braintrust know that tanking is not the only solution to a rebuild;

DA also has a nice record for mid to late first round picks;
Peavey Bass Player - relearning to play after 10 years sucks;

I hope they don't play to tank. Go out and play the games hard and what happens, happens.

I think the team is going to give effort, they will be fun to watch. But as our roster currently stands, whether we tank or not, we will end up with a high pick.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
The losses will come no need to root for them.

Tommy Point from me as well. When I think of the Celtics, I want to think of winning championships and deep playoff runs, NOT losing 60 games a year for the CHANCE to draft an unproven college kid the following year.

This, since we are going to just suck
it feels better to have fun on the tanking competition

Ok....we aren't tanking ..... Just going after second place prize to the championship ,  lotto pick of Wiggins

I think we have as good chance as anybody to land him .......this Celtics team is horrible and is not planned...it's just a accumulation of players from dismantling the team .

I ll be amazed if they can win 20 games without Rondo.

Half year of practice and addition of Rondo could make a significant improvement though. , DA won't allow them to get Rondo too early.    No reason to screw up draft pick, for an extra 10 wins., that will mean nothing in the long run......the lottery could make or break the C's.

Not expecting Rondo back till Feb......

Rock Chalk KU!!!! Kansas Jayhawks who became Celtics Legends:

1. Jo Jo White
2. Paul Pierce
(3. James Wiggins)

Lets finish with the best record (38-44) of the non-playoff teams and defeat all odds to land the top pick. The justification is we got absolutely hosed in the 2007 and 1997 lotteries and the law of averages are on our side.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

But I'm with you guys. I want to watch them win. If we get a great draft pick, that's gravy, but that's for next June.

It was only an exhibition game against a non-Division 1 opponent but Wiggins certainly passed the eye test.  He's so lanky and smooth.  He had two blocks that showcased his reach, quickness off his feet and timing.  It's going to be surprising if he doesn't put up blocks and steals numbers that project him at a high level in the NBA.  His shot is a work in progress but I liked his unselfishness.

I almost don't want to get my hopes up for Wiggins or Parker.  It's going to hurt if they play elsewhere.

And we missed out on him. And that's doing so with having players who are playing good, so good that we need to sit them down because we might win. What kind of an identity are we trying to put into our players heads?

(for the record, not disagreeing with you DOS, just pointing out how tanking is more of a negative than a positive).

Yeah, I agree with the sentiment. If the Celtics really do win 40 games (like that thread is predicting) I'll be stoked.

I want those guys to play hard. And it's the NBA--upsets can happen anywhere. We saw that last night with Clips/Lakers.

Tanking most likely won't help anyone. Look at the last 10 years of Wizards basketball.

This will be the first season post-Pierce and the hardest part will be knowing this team has no franchise player.  Argue Rondo if you want to but the sentiment to get a Wiggins, Parker, Randle, etc is to me as much about winning is as it is about having a franchise guy to build around and root for.  This draft will be deep enough for us to have a realistic shot at a great player anywhere in the mid to upper lottery.

So hopefully this will be the only transition year until we get our next 14 year superstar that makes every season worth watching, even when we arent one of the top 5 teams in the league.
