On hoopshype it's saying Kendall Marshall is getting waived by the Wizards after the Gortat trade is completed.  Do we go after him?  Sign him to a cheap contract?  I didn't see him play last season.

We should absolutely grab him! We need another legit PG and he is certainly a great option, young and talented.

From all that I read, he's not very good. He can't score nor get into the paint to draw fouls. He's a bit like Michael Carter Williams, but without the defensive props and MCW does draw fouls.

Marshall is a big assist guy though. In very limited minutes last season, he averaged > 10 assists per 48 minutes, hitting double digit assists 3 time.

IMO, it can't hurt to take a flier on a guy like Marshall. Like a lot of lottery picks who are drafted by bad teams and are stuck behind new/big contracts, e.g. Marshall with the Suns & Williams with the Wolves, you can't blame their failures 100% on them.

Bring him in for the season. Let the coaches & Rondo work with him. Have him play a lit of minutes for the Red Claws. Maybe there's something there?

I never saw Marshall play much in Phoenix (who did? Garbage time for a garbage team doesn't draw many eyes), but I watched him a lot at UNC, and MCW at Cuse.

Kendall's a much worse scorer than MCW - poor outside shooter and a genuinely bad finisher, to the point that on fastbreaks he'd routinely just toss the ball off the backboard in the hopes a better player could catch and finish on the other side of the rim.

He is a phenomenal passer though - one of the best I've seen at the college level.  But he's not athletic or long enough to get past people, so if no one respects his scoring he's going to struggle to create much, and his defense is also pretty poor.

He might be worth a shot but I wouldn't expect much at all, he's just not well-suited for this level.

Wow weird move by the Wiz. I dont know much about his game but I thought he was a good young potential guy. If we had an open spot I would pick him up in a heart beat. Its always good to have some competition in a back up position on a rebuilding team.

Assets, assets, assets.

If the Celtics can develop him into a solid NBA player, he becomes a valuable trade asset. He was the #13 overall pick, just 17 months ago.

If he just isn't talented enough to play in the NBA or doesn't work hard, ala Melo, waive him.

exactly. I would take both Marshall and Royce White, develop and showcase them, and then use them with some of our other assets to get a building block. If they don't work out, we don't lose much anyway

K.Marshall sounds pretty similar to Pressey. Can't score, shoot from distance or finish at the rim, is a strong floor general and playmaker and a lousy defender albeit due to lack of quicks rather than Pressey's lack of size.

Doesn't sound like he'd be an upgrade to Pressey, or, in terms of skill-set, provide much of an alternative to Pressey. I would rather get a different type of backup PG. Someone who can make shots.

I was thinking the same thing.  If Pressey didn't look like he could fit in the rotation, I'd be all for giving Kendall a chance.  But I think if we're giving minutes to a project backup PG with passing instincts, it makes more sense to go with Pressey at this point.

Marshall was a lottery pick last year.  Marshall couldn't get minutes on a Suns team that won 25 games.  Take from that what you will.

I maintain that he'd be Pressey's backup if he ended up here.

Pass, I think he is a very mediocre player.

Head to head I take Pressey.   Not as good as stats in all areas but not as good as a team to pass too.

Agreed.

If getting another PG, I'd rather have a Lou Williams/Nate Robinson type.

We already have more players then we know what to do with.

Rondo,Presley
AB,Lee,Crawford,Brooks
Green,Wallace,Bogans,
Sully,Bass,Humps
Fav,KO

Thats 14 and doesn't include guys like Babb. I think we can have 15, but have to have 3 in Maine. I could be wrong there.

But bringing in assets to develop doesn't make sens since we have Pres,Crawford,Brooks,Sully, and KO to develop. if you want more you need to trade Bass,Wallace,Lee or Humps to get some low end assets to train up.

Plus White's problem isn't skill its his head, he's going to be on his third team because of it.Unless the C's hire the top shrink in the country, thats a waste of time. Bringing in a PG to develop in and league that is full of PG's isn't smart either.

If you're going to bring people in to develop for trade you go after a Center that a contending team doesn't have time to work with and give minutes.

the wizards are one of the most poorly managed teams in the league. makes sense they would waive him.
