Wow weird move by the Wiz.

The non-Gortat players in the trade are only being included to balance salary.  The Wizards have 18 players under contract and are waiving the three extra guys they are receiving to get down to 15.

The Suns reportedly were trying to pretty much give away Marshall last season.  Ten years from now, he might be seen as the biggest bust of the 2012 draft.

The Suns also sold us Rondo for cash on draft night not too long ago, so it's not impossible that they give away another good young point guard.

I don't really know why Malcolm Lee was involved in the deal. His salary wasn't required to make the deal work, and Washington didn't want him, because they are waiving him.

I guess Phoenix gets to shed salary and open a roster slot. But with temporary savings of less than $900K (at least until someone else on a minimum contract comes along, presumably), it seems like small potatoes.

Besides the fact that he doesn't bring that much to the table, it can't happen. We couldn't even keep Babb for 457K. No way Danny and the owners pay luxury tax to bring in a project that may very well never pan out.

Maybe the goal is to give the coach no choice but to play Bledsoe and Dragic together at times and to give Dionte Christmas some playing time.

Sounds like his skills are similar to Rondo...Celtics could deal Rondo for another 2014 first rounder...It wouldn't hurt at all to give Marshall a shot...it wouldn't hurt at all.
Everyone wants truth on his side, not everyone wants to be on the side of truth.

He sounds like Rondo without the rebounding or defense or athleticism and with worse shooting.

Crazy.  Fab Melo was a bust, and he's already looking like only the third-worst bust of the draft, with Marshall and Royce White ahead of him.

... why would you think the Suns would've needed Rondo?  You realize they had an effective Steve Nash, right?  Besides, they didn't sell Rondo for cash; they made that pick for the Celtics since the trade was agreed to before the draft.

Marshall played last year and he was bad.  Like, really bad.  Check out Bright Side of the Sun to see how many Suns fans wanted to see him go.  The only thing going in his favor is potential, which has yet to be realized after a year in the league.

they sold Rondo for cash, no matter how you spin it. Sure they had Nash, but that's why you keep assets for future use. They didn't even get a future pick in return, how well did that work out for them?

I'm not saying Marshall will be the next Rondo, or even a starter, but the Suns have a history of throwing away good young players. We are in rebuilding mode, and we need to collect and develop assets. Jordan Crawford, Bass, Lee, Babb, these guys are not viewed as assets by any GM, so roster space should not be an issue.

The Celtics absorbed the contract of Brian Grant for the privilege of swapping a first-round pick for the following year (belonging to the Cavs and eventually used on Rudy Fernandez) for the draft pick used to get Rondo.

The decision to trade to get Rondo is partly credited to Ryan McDonough, who is now the Suns GM, so there is some reason to believe that the Suns are getting rid of a bad young player this time.

No matter how you spin it, Rondo was traded away because they had no need for him and because the Celtics offered to take Brian Grant's contract off their hands.  How'd it work out for the Suns?  They received a first-round pick in 2007 that they proceeded to trade away as, again, they had no need for the player they selected (Rudy Fernandez).  All the while, they made several deep playoff runs and could've made it to the Finals had Amare and Diaw not gotten suspended in 2007.  So... it didn't affect them in the least.

How "Rondo was traded to the Celtics" turns into "the Suns have a history of throwing away players," I have no idea.  Do the Celtics have some running history of throwing away talent because they once traded Joe Johnson and Chauncey Billups?
