I just saw this, I have no idea if anyone's posted this already. I hope Brad Stevens uses it to guide Jeff:

I'm sure Stevens knows this.  It's common knowledge among basketball people. Green shouldn't be catching the ball in the 3 point area in front of the hoop under normal circumstances because he  shoots it whenever he's open.

Haha.

Wow. Wild stat which was subconsciously known but seeing numbers in front of you is interesting. If hes in the corner im ok with the three, if he is up top he should be making his drive to the hoop. Hopefully he stops standing around and waiting for the iso plays.

We're not going to be seeing a lot of those corner threes this season when JG is the best option on the floor. He needs teammates being scoring threats in order for those to be open.

Might see a lot from AB, though.

Someone is better making shorter open jumpers than longer contested ones. Shocking, I know.

I appreciate analysis like this because it allows us to gauge the usefulness of an outside shooter with much more specificity.

This is why the Celtics are not a particularly good three point shooting team.  They don't really have anybody who has demonstrated an ability to hit tougher outside shots from a number of different spots on the floor.  They just have a few spot-up corner specialists.

This is a good point.  Since we lost Pierce and Terry we really do only have corner three shooters.

We can't really get to the rim either or draw double teams in the post so we do need to space the floor too and take those threes around the top of the line though. though.

I had been thinking about how Jeff, now, could really thrive being less focused on in the offense and able to get the ball kicked to him, and this corner three difference really shows how that could work.  If Jeff could be in the corner or slicing in off kicks (and in addition, he is a good defender who can block shots and get some steals) he would be a very effective player on one of the better teams.

Houston for example, who Simmons suggested a Jeff Green for Asik trade between the Celtics and Rockets.

Of course any player can play better with less attention on him.  But I just think his complement of talents would work very well with a post player getting double teamed (like Dwight would).

And you think Ainge didn't know this?  It's all part of the masterplan

I'd like to see some numbers on Green's shooting from different spots in catch-and-shoot situations vs. shooting after dribbling the ball.

Green shouldn't be shooting threes, he should be taking it to the basket as much as possible and drawing fouls. So should Sullinger

Maybe it's just me, but Jeff Green seems like he plays his best when he isnt shooting three's and is attacking the basket for put backs or dunks. Same goes for Sullinger, as soon as he shoots a couple long jumpers he is done for the night. Let him post up and he is fine.
