Now i know the prospect of being able to move all 3 of these guys is ridiculous. But if we were able to move these 3 for nothing but expiring contracts, what would our cap situation be next summer?

Obviously summer 2014 might have a few big name free agents, if we had cap space we could try to rebuild in the same way Houston did. Rondo is definitely a guy high caliber NBA  players will want to join up with, best pass first point guard in the league and a proven winner.

Outside of potentially clearing cap, we have a slew of picks, a trade exception, and Hump's 12 Mill expiring deal.

Does moving these 3 allow us to pursue a max guy?

If my math is correct, dumping all three would reduce the payroll by just under $22.5 million, leaving the C's just under $25 million below the projected cap of $62.1 million for the 2014-15 season.

It's a moot point, because nobody is going to trade us expiring contracts for these guys unless we throw in a bunch of assets on top of them.  Cap space is nice, but it's not THAT nice.

Outside of potentially clearing cap, we have a slew of picks, a trade exception, and Hump's 12 Mill expiring deal.

To use cap space next season, you would have to renounce any trade exception.  And if you're trading long-term contracts for expiring contracts, you're probably dipping into that stash of draft picks to make it happen.

Good point. I'd forgotten about that TE. How large is it again?

I think people are underestimating the market for a guy like Bass, he's a very good player. Especially on a contender.

But Lee and Wallace getting dealt is a pipe dream. I'm aware of that.

I just wanted to know if moving these 3 in a dream scenario would allow us to pursue a max level  guy?

Perhaps, but I doubt any contender will touch his contract with a 10-foot pole. He was the right guy at the right place. He isn't that anymore.

You have a considerably higher chance to trade Lee or Wallace -- Lee because he's cheaper, and Wallace because he's plain better. But moving either of the three without packaging them with incentives is likely a pipe dream.

I could see wallace for okafor if okafor looks injured and wallace starts strong and washington is disappointed with their 3/4.

How about just connecting one of those players with the TE?

Not together but in two parallel trades for a team desperate to get under the cap or tax land.
