Quote
"Well, I didn't look at it as the banner thing," Rivers maintained. "I just look at it as putting our guys up."

Rivers had the banners of Jamal Crawford, Blake Griffin, J.J. Redick, DeAndre Jordan, Jared Dudley, Chris Paul and Matt Barnes all put up on the wall.

The Kings' championship banner was still up on the opposite side of the arena.

Rivers was asked why he didn't put up his banners on the same side as the Kings' banner.

"Listen, I think this is our arena when we play," Rivers said. "So I just thought it would be good that we show our guys. No disrespect to them. But when we play, it's the Clippers' arena as far as I know."

Jordan has been with the Clippers for five seasons and he always wondered why the Lakers had their banners at the forefront.

"You've got to give those [Lakers] guys credit. They won championships so they have the right to put them up," Jordan said. "But at the same time, it doesn't say Lakers Arena outside. It says Staples.
"

I'm surprised this hasn't been done sooner..well I guess I'm not. They just got good a couple seasons ago, but they're clearly sending the Lakers a mesaage.

Maybe he should ban talk of Boston or Miami's Big Three when the Clips are playing as well.

This really strikes me as kind of a "well duh" moment.  Shame on the Clips for not doing this the 1st day they moved into Staples.

Doc is gonna try like heck to change the culture in Clipperland.  Let's see if he can succeed.

Dumbest thing I have heard. At some point this guy is going to have to coach. Is he going to cover the Magic Johnson statute outside the arena, or the soon to be erected Kareem statute? Is he going to change the Chick Hearn Avenue leading to the arena?

Just dumb dumb ... He wants to change the culture he should have Clippers move to Orange County.

As long as they play in Staples they will ALWAYS be second fiddle. Staples is the house that Shaq built.

Here's the thing, neither team is the sole owner of the Staples Center (I actually think it is independently owned).  It'd be no different than if the (insert random team) had Lakers' banners up in their building.

Also, there is already precedence for this.  The NY Jets cover up the Giants' Super Bowl banners/trophy display during Jets home games. When they both played in the old Giants Stadium, the Jets had no say, now that they both have an equal investment in the MetLife Stadium, they get to present the building as "theirs" for respective home games.

The Clips have every right, and obligation to their fans, to present the building as "theirs" during Clipper home games.  Nothing can be done about statues outside of the building, which are likely on municipal property.

Yeah this is a great move by Doc. To give him grief just for the sake of doing so is pointless. Why wouldnt anyone in his position do this, and why has it taken so long to be done?
