You mean Marshon Brooks is a quality offensive player.  Who could have predicted that?  I mean aside from everybody.
"Quality"? You surely jest. Believe it or not, there are things one can do on offense other than being an unrepentant gunner.

Brooks hasn't even looked better on offense, no matter that Green is a way better defender.

I really don't think Brooks should be playing.

Random NBA player > Jeff Green isn't even a profound statement anymore. I'm saying it now and if I'm wrong then so be it, but I'm giving up on Jeff. I just don't think he's got the fundamentals and BBIQ to take advantage of his athleticism and become the key player for us that many seem to think he can be. And no, I'm not basing this on a few preseason games, I'm basing it on 5 seasons of NBA play and this preseason.

To me, Jeff seems destined to be one of those guys who will show random flashes of great play but will never quite put it together. Definitely not a player I feel comfortable with as key rebuilding piece. Can he be a high level role player on a good team? Sure. But ifhes supposed to be a #2 or #3 guy on a future championship contender, the next few years will be brutal.

Sorry. End of rant.

Green has underwhelmed in the eyes of people who expected him to be Reggie Lewis or James Worthy 2.0.

But saying Marshon Brooks is better than him?  That's a bit much.

Marshon has looked pretty good this preseason.  If he can become as good a player as Jeff Green for the long term, I'll be ecstatic.

There is a difference between being a good shooter versus being a good offensive player.  Brooks can shoot well.

But he isn't (to my eyes through a few games):
-quick enough to take many 2 guards off the dribble
-looking to use his shooting skill to be a decoy and make the extra pass for easy looks
-a good passer
-trying to share the ball
-a good enough def player to not make himself a big liability on d
-known to be a hustle player who gives 110%
-known as a team player

Maybe Stevens can work some magic with him and get him to buy into playing D and hustling more.  If that happens, then maybe he can be a good rotation player for us.

In the meantime, just because Brooks scores a bundle of points in the 4th quarter of a preseason game against the other team's 3rd string doesn't mean that he is a better player than Green.  We have seen that JG can be a game changer against the top teams of the league when he has his head on straight.

Just would like to mention that these fabulous numbers from Marshon Brooks have come mostly against non roster invitees and D league wannabees in garbage time.

I am not anywhere near satisfied with Jeff Green's pre season performance at this point, but he is playing mostly against actual NBA players and usually starters.

Kinda weights the stats for me for what it's worth.

Brooks deserves more playing time. Yes, I will give you that but c'mon. It's preseason. I was at the Nets game and you could clearly see "Jeff Green turns it on mode" and "Jeff Green is just trying to get in the flow of things mode." He's a very good player, he's our player, and people need to stop flipping out about preseason. Why don't we support him because we have seen what he is capable of. Let's cheer for our best player (until Rondo returns and he becomes 2nd best) and not denigrate him just because this year is going to stink and we are looking for a scapegoat. GO JEFF GREEN! GO CELTICS!

I guess I'm watching a different player than the OP... before Brooks got hot last game he was playing TERRIBLE! The guy can't defend a chair (but has the tools)! He brought the offense to a stand still!! I was in chat typing, I see why this guy gets no PT and so was everyone else! He will score a bunch of points in a row but defensively cause the whole defensive rotations to crumble, giving up just as many as he gets! OMG he was so bad last game, then he got hot and all is glossed over. I think he would be a fine guy to come in and just be let loose on offense much like Craw was last season but he should never see the court in crucial moments unless it's to hit a buzzer beater! I have said this already but I think it's worth mentioning again, watch the video of when the rooks were singing happy b/day to Lee, EVERYONE was standing in a circle while they sang, all huddled pretty close. The ONE person not near the huddle, Brooks. He was shooting buckets... then after a bit he walked over to the huddle that he saw formed (he looked at them a few times and the gym was QUIET so he heard what was going on), he finally walked over for a few seconds to look and then went back to his own thing again. He is not a team player. If you watch the body language of the other guys when he plays it says a lot to me, they don't think too highly of his ball-hog ways. I may not be remembering correctly but b4 last game, not one player has said anything about him (besides the Nets guys when ASKED during the press conference and media day)! Matter of fact, I haven't read an article of them saying anything about him AFTER his flurry last game! I see quotes from Brooks but none from the other guys, maybe I just missed them 0.0? Preseason or not, these games are the only things going on, I see quotes from the guys about everything else, how is none of it about Brooks 14pt 4th? Telling. I had high hopes for him and he may still do well but his defense looks as bad as ever and that's after he claims (his people too), that he put in a lot of work on defense. If you still look like that on defense (when guys are not even trying hard in preseason), that means you need new trainers! A quote from Brooks after last game “We’ve got so many guards. My time is limited because of that, so I just try to fit in,” If he is trying defensively, then what does not trying look like? 0.0 So far he has shown to be a specialist, the guy you should put in when you get a lead and want to rest your key guys or a guy to come in a get you some buckets when all else is failing. Starting 2 guard???? Hahaha, sure if you want all the other guys to hate you b/c he stifles your offense and KILLS your defense (and I'm not talking about to the opponent).

After all that I forgot to say, he is doing all of this against the worse players for the opposition, guys who won't make the team or who will be waiving towels while getting a fat check. So how do you let the scrubs abuse you on D? Like Bogans said, he decided to focus more on defense b/c just about everyone can score (something like that lol). Marshon better figure out how to not be a liability on the floor b/c the team can find many players to get them a few points without killing an offense and be passable on D! Remember to watch the other guys next game when Brooks plays, watch how they look at him as he gets embarrassed on D and hogs the ball on offense.

you guys are tripping.  maybe its just all the negative nellies on this thread.  Just cause a player stopped the offense to shoot 60% from the floor when the rest of the team is shooting 30% doesn't mean that is a bad thing for the ball movement.  This team lacks a scorer and brooks can be that guy.

I see him starting eventually.  I think stevens will coach him up and he'll be our two guard of the future.

I also expect a lot of trades this year including green, bradley, bass, lee and perhaps humphries but I think danny will take advantage of hump's expiring.

I like the line-up of rondo's lack of outside shot being made up by brooks shooting, I like crash at the sf, sullinger at pf and fav at center

hopefully trading those chips will bring us back another center.  I'd like to see Olynyk playing the three and four positions.  If Olynyk can catch on at the three then we have a lot of potential on this team

rondo
brooks
olynyk/crash
Sully
Fav (center to be traded for or drafted later)

I'm excited to see what Fav can become ... I think you negative nellies made fun of that acquisition as well.

I've got two words for you: sample size.

So he's shooting 60% over a few games? So what? That's not going to keep up.

His selfish play is offense-killing. On top of that, he's a shooting guard that can't shoot 3's, and turns the ball over a lot. I've got no use for him.
