Like what if that was the only reason he traded for Crawford...because we KNOW at some point he's gonna lose us some games. His blunders will cost us at least 4 or 5 extra losses.

I think Ainge did it to try and tank for Wiggins...that's just what I'm thinkin, yo.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
You may not like Crawford, but he has some talent and was easily worth what we traded for him at the time. Obviously he needs some help in the efficiency department, but he is a career 13 ppg scorer and can hit shots very few others can. I think he was brought in as a potential spark off the bench - which he did last year for us and will be doing this year, as well.

And he's been very efficient this preseason. I'm loving me some Crawfish.

The .....tank ...part.......depends on the amount of games Rondo plays.

It's on auto tank mode ,   Without Rondo on the court Nd many months for Presey to develop

We are legitimate Wiggins contender

Ainge already has Bradley at the point. If he's trying to tank, that's a great start.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

I want you and the OP to think about what you're saying.  Danny had the worst player in the league with Jason Collins.  How does trading him for Jordan Crawford lose more games? (or trading Fab Melo for that matter)
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Erm it's pretty simple actually. Collins is a defensive specialist who can block up the paint and defend elite big men like Howard- putting him out there isn't going to affect the win/loss comlumn because Collins' weaknesses/strengths are generally a wash.

Crawford is a chucker with a terrible FG % who demands a high % of the ball to score any points at all.

By gaining Crawford we have a guy who will put up a high number of shots relevant to his efficiency. He takes good shots away from Jeff Green and Avery Bradley and takes those shots himself...whilst making a lower % of them, thus making our team less efficient, thus losing us more games.

Think of it like Russell Westbrook taking shots away from Durant- you want your better, consistent shooters taking the majority of the shots- it's the entire reason the Wizards got rid of him because his shot selection is poor and although he'll catch fire every once in a while and might win you a game- he's more likely to lose you more games because he requires too much ball usage and your best players are losing opprtunities to score.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I agree with this 100%.

Out of all the possible trait combinations that exist, being a high usage, low efficiency "scorer" is about the worst. The funniest part is when GM's get a bunch of those clowns in one place, like Marbury and crew with the Knicks, or now with Bargnani and JR Smith. The Knicks had a terrible offseason, and I can't wait to see what happens if they play Bargnani a lot of minutes... if that happens it'll be comical.

Danny got Crawford, because they desperately needed another guard at the deadline last year after all of their PGs got hurt, and they were also desperate for scoring. Crawford was the best he could get without giving up any real future assets.

Now, why he is still on the roster, and potentially playing a big role?  That could be part of the tanking philosophy.

Crawford also makes more than Fab did, making him harder to dump probably.

Roster balance wise we need Crawford more than Fab too, and he can play a bit.

So I don't think its a matter of wanting to use him to tank, but rather not spending resources to dump his salary. I don't see him as having positive trade value, maybe at the deadline he will who knows.
