Orton has been playing well for maine as of late. Some games he is scoring 20 plus points, pulling down 15 rebounds with 3 blocks

He is deceptively quick, athletic for a guy his size. Wide shoulder and 6'10 270 pounds, with 7'5  wingspan

Now is a good time to give him a 10 day contract and see what he can do imo. Waive anthony as he has no future with the team.

Anthony has a $3.8 million option for next year. If the Celtics waive him now, they'd be on the hook for that money as well (there's no reason why Anthony would pass up the free money that would come with a release).

I agree but you can eat it and forget it. He provides no value. He has really lost a step and is not the same guy as before. You cant give others like orton a shot bc there is no spot in the lineup. What if orton finally reaches potential and we lose out?

Anthony's contract could be used as ballast for a trade next season, assuming he opts in. Having nearly $4 million in dead money against your cap doesn't help facilitate the rebuild.

If you want to cut someone to open a slot, cut Pressey. His contract is fully unguaranteed. Or let Chris Babb go. It's doubtful that another team would pick up either.

No.  If you eat it you get to keep digesting it until after the 2016-2017 season, when the cap hit finally comes off the books.  Very short-sighted, and will probably be remembered when we have cap room in the 2015 offseason.  No reason to waste the much cap space on Daniel Orton, of all people.

I just don't see the point in signing him.

What's his real upside?  That he's an adequate backup center?  At this point, who plays backup center is pretty irrelevant.  And in fact, signing him might actually be counterproductive if it affects Sullinger and Olynyk's minutes.

And if he does emerge and become an adequate backup, he'll price himself out of a price worth keeping him at before the C's are in a position to start worrying about who the backup center is.

At this point, he seems a good fit for a playoff team who lacks size and is willing to roll the dice he pans out as a backup.

Orton's issue was that when he declared for the draft he was a freshman that came off the bench. Since he has been by the end of the 1st round, he has been bounced around like no tomorrow imo mainly bc he needs alot of time to develop. I was surprised the 76rs and Magic let him go. But i guess the magic rather invest their time with Oquinn and 76rs with Davies , Sims, Vernado

Orton is a WIDE body with Length. Kind of like a bigger , longer Sullinger but raw and lower iq. From the little i've seen him play, he is good at boxing out, grabbing rebounds, tip in, blocking shots. Can run up and down the court a little. Better than Sully. But also looks lost at times

With AB back, i doubt Babb will get signed for the rest of the year. Nice opportunity to give Orton a try out
