After watching the first 2 preseason games this year (yes, it's a small sample), is it just me or is anyone else wondering if there was a way to get Hump and Wallace from the Nets while keeping KG and PP?

This thought popped into my head as I watch these 2 hustle on the court in spite of being sent to an obvious rebuilding effort AND seeing what Vitor is bringing to the court.

After watching the low quality play from Green, Lee and Bass, I wonder if Danny could have talked the Nets into taking those 3 after last season in a swap for Hump and Wallace while still having his eye on signing Vitor during the summer.

We's still be missing Rondo for a month and have a hole at SG (AB and Crawford aren't the answer)

Thoughts?

No way.  Nets owner expressed a goal of winning a championship in five years.  Getting rid of Wallace and Humphries without getting anything worthwhile in return would send them in the opposite direction.  Not to mention, the Celtics couldn't take back all of that salary without sending out KG and Pierce.

Also, the Nets wouldn't take those contracts back since they last longer.  The deal wasn't getting done without KG and Pierce being sent out.

no. i'm already starting to like watching this team while waiting for wiggins/parker. ;D but seriously sentiments aside i don't think we can win a another championship with old PP and KG. i'm happy rebuilding with what we got. i'm already smiling once doc genius went to LA.

I was actually thinking about this yesterday..most of the players we picked up this offseason would have gone so well with KG/Pierce/Rondo. Finally seem to have a real backup PG who could pick up the slack for 10 MPG (Pressey). Olynyk and Fav are two skilled big guys who would have mixed real well with Garnett, imo.

I'm not going to include Hump or Wallace because I doubt we would have been able to get them, but I'd LOVE to have Wallace on last year's team. I forgot how good he actually is. Good handle, plays great hustle defense, rebounds well..great glue guy.

These guys actually fill real holes that we had after the 2011-2012 ECF run. I have no idea what Ainge was thinking when he went and got Lee/Terry, etc. We needed guys like who we just picked up. Guess it wasn't possible..

I agree.

Selfishly, I would've loved to see both of them retire in Boston.

at best we would have been a bottom tier playoff team.  By trading them we're going to bottom out with less than 30 wins.  In the long run, it'll be worth it.

I agree their time had passed but I wish we would have got Wallace while they were here.   Wallace reminds me of Posey in that he is a scrappy guy who can shoot.   He would have helped the Big Three a lot.   I realize he was out of our price ranger.    But I can't help thinking this guy would have helped us in the same ways Posey did.

G-Wallace? Yes
Humphries? No

Humphries' expiring contract was the Nets only major asset to bring another star player alongside their B.Lopez, D.Williams and J.Johnson trio. They wouldn't have given Humphries up for anything less than star talent. They were too far down the road, too committed to their plan. Humphries wasn't available.

Gerald Wallace had a horrible contract though and was underperforming badly. He would have been available. A trade for a role player that would have saved them some money would have likely be enough. Maybe for a Brandon Bass. Or a Courtney Lee + some cap filler that would expire soon.

considering how Wallace is playing so far, as well as Sully and KO, I'd do a deal with the Nets for just Wallace and filler for JET/Lee and Bass (I believe the $ works).
I like what Hump has done so far but I think KO and Sully could fill his spot decently.  For me the key is grabbing Vitor to back up KG.  I'm just in disbelief that for the first time in a VERY long time the C's have a center that can run the floor, has good hands to catch passes in transition and can finish at the hoop without having to gather himself.

Wallace would be a solid backup to PP if we kept them.

The one really glaring hole we'd still have on the roster is the lack of a SG that can actually score.

I know it sets rebuilding back a year or 2 but I think those moves alone would have positioned this team better for another strong run this year.

yes, definitely should have kept them. The seats were packed full when Bird and McHale were hobbling around. Celtic fans love hanging on to losers.

Sarcasm? Which players are the losers that you're referring too?
